alternatives to mince

Hi everyone

I tend to use a lot of mince (usually beef or pork) making basic meals such as stews, shepherds pie, spag bol etc. Pointing this morning I noticed how high in points these are and wanted to ask if many of you use the meat free alternatives that are much lower in points and if so which ones taste the best and are the lowest in points?

I don't want to start faffing around making different meals for myself and the kids so I tend to just cook meals that we can all have so a good tasting alternative would be great.

My daughter is vegetarian and will only eat Linda McCartneys vegemince. Saying that my other daughter will only eat meat mince, and hates all non-meat alternatives. Oh it's fun in my house. One almost vegan, one complete carnivore!
 
thank you hun :) none of us at home at vegetarian but I will try the meat free stuff just because it's lower in points lol. Will give the Linda McCartney stuff a go.
 
Turkey mince is very good, u still get meat but it's really low in points, I also found turkey sausages in asda the other day so gonna give them a go too :)

If u can get turkey mince, buy turkey breast an either mince urself or chop in a food processor :D

the extra lean beef mince in Sainsbury's is really good only 15pp for a pack of 500g! But the meat free one is indeed the best one: 100g of quorn mince is 2pp and 500g is 12pp!

I'd rather use an extra 3pp and have proper mince :p :drool:
 
Can I give a word of warning about Quorn mince and products?
I use to eat quite a bit of it and enjoyed it. Then one morning I woke and had a terrible rash under my arms and in my groin. went to dr and said it was fungal and thought no more about it. A few months later same thing happened again and I could not understand it. Anyway did a bit of googling on fungal rashes etc and came across a forum on Quorn and there were about 20 people who had similar reactions. It appears that some people are sensitive to it but not all. I stopped using it a year ago and have never had another episode so just be aware if you have something like this it may be the quorn.
 
I think extra lean mince is worth the extra 3pp, and if I make the meal between the 3 of us its only 1pp extra.
