In this cold weather, all I want to do is eat stoggy, sweet and spicy food.

I find myself nibbling so much.

Is it the survival gene coming out or what?

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Advise pleaseeeeeeeeeeee
 
I'm getting that feeling lately. I think it's because i've lost some insulation and as a result am feeling the cold more. I'm sure on a subconcious level my body wants the blubber back.
 
I make a big pot of lentil and vegetable curry and dip in throughout the day. It's free on green and ee, and it's hot, spicy and filling - just what I need on horrid winter days! I make cauliflower rice to go with it so that I don't end up overdoing it on the rice and carbs front.
 
I think you need to stock up on lots of free foods......here are some suggestions!

Make some Slimming World Quiche with chicken and bacon in it - and have your HEA of cheese over the top of it.

Slimming World Chips - and syn some gravy to go over them!!! Roast some carrots with them as well in frylight to bulk the plate out.

Chicken breasts with bacon and melted cheese - yum!!!!!

A wintery soup - Tomato and chilli, or Carrot and Coriander......serve with Nimble bread toasted as croutons.

Put loads of root veggies in the oven with frylight on and make some veggie chips - you can then dip them in a homemade warm salsa of tomatoes, onion and garlic.....you can munch these whilst watching the telly!!


Take 2 alpen choc and fudge bars (HEB) melted in the microwave and top with a choccie mullerlight....stodgy and yummy!!! and free if you use the HEB choice.

Huge fruit salad - covered in a yoghurt or fat free fromage frais!

No worries. Sorry I'm not all that precise about some of the times/quantities, I am a bit of a bung it in and see what happens kind of girl ;)

1.5 pints vegetable stock (I make mine up from a tesco value stock cube and this is fine)
1/2lb red lentils
2tsp turmeric
2tsp cayenne pepper
2tsp ground coriander
2tsp ground cumin
2tsp grated ginger
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 onions, chopped

Bung all of the above ingredients into a slow cooker if you have one, if not the biggest saucepan you own. Heat until just simmering for an hour or so - the lentils will break down to make a thick curry sauce. If you like at this point you can stop and use it as a curry sauce for chips instead

Then add whatever veg you have kicking around - and lots of them. As many as will go in the pan! You can add what you like, I always use at the minimum cauliflower, carrots, broccoli and spinach, but I cram in as much as I can of whatever is about. Fresh, frozen, about to turn, it doesn't matter, just bung it in! Sometimes I add a tin of chick peas or cannelini beans too. If you add spinach, don't add it until just before you serve it. Once the veggies are tender, have a little taste and add some curry powder if it's not hot enough for you. I do like mine hot so I always add some if it's just me, but my OH is a wuss! Then serve with the accompaniments of your choice!

This freezes okay but at this time of year I keep it in the pot and warm it up as I want it. It *can* separate a little but this is fine, just mix it back up again.

Lovely filling curry, with lots of healthy stuff and none of the baddies. :) It's something I made even before I began SW and it doesn't feel at all like diet food. The best thing is, although it's really filling a lot of it is water. I've had some of my best losses in the weeks I've been absolutely pigging out on this!

You can serve with rice or SW chips, but I often use this so I don't end up binging on too many carbs.

Hope this helps, it's been my saviour in this weather. I think it's very similar to soup really, but psychologically it feels like a big treat to settle down with a huge hot bowl of curry!
