Puddings Syn Free Pud

We've just had my adapted 'Plum & Vanilla Batter Pudding', from the last but one mag, but at 0 syns as opposed to 5.5 per serving ;). Obviously it's not exactly the same as the mag - the basis is more sponge than batter, but it was very nice.

Make the mixture for the 0.5 syn roulade (mine ended up as syn free because I forgot to add the baking powder ). Slice your fruit of choice and cover the bottom of a 'fry-lighted' baking dish - I used a rectangular glass lid from one of my casserole dishes (slightly deeper than the swiss roll tin I use when making the roulade). Pour roulade mixture over the fruit and cook at 180 for 20 mins.
Served warm with topping of your choice - lush :eat:
As with the roulade, I bet it'd be nice cold but if you fancy a hot dessert - perhaps using some syns for custard, a deffo yum from me.

I've 'listened' to the debate on this forum over cooked fruit having to be syn'd and, not just because it suits me, believe that if you use the same amount that you would have eaten in a normal sitting/snack, how on earth can it possibly be syn'd?!?
I only used 2 plums and as the 'sponge mix' completely covered the slices and basically acted as an insulation (similar to meringue on a baked alaska), the plums were still al-dente.

syned cooked fruit

I agree with you,I thought I had made a syn free apple crumble when I first started slimming world almost 11 years ago now.I sliced an apple and put it in a dish with diet lemonade to cover it,then put plain cous cous which I added sweetener to in a cup with boiling water over it till that was ready, then put it on top of the apple.I told my consultant who said"you have to syn the apple at 2.5 syns coz you cooked it."I was taken aback as every thing was supposed to be free. However I still make it and I have been a target member for 10years now so it cant be that bad eh?

I agree that you need to use a bit of common sense but it is important that newbies know what the official SW line it on things like this so they can make an informed decision about tweaks to the plan

That sounds lovely!!

1 apple sliced, quater of a pint diet lemonade put in 1pint casserole dish.plain cous cous,4 table spoons of sweetener,I just poured it in a bowl(didnt weigh it)then poured boiling water over it and when water absorbed put it on top of apples and baked gas6 till golden brown on top.I served it with vanilla mullerlight.

It isn't just about the amount that you eat but how the cooking changes the sugars in the fruit. I'm not 100% on the science behind it but I think your body then digests it differently.

I think as long as you use common sense and make changes if it affects your weightloss then obviously go for it

I for one still have homemade fruit smoothies and it hasn't affected my loss yet, although whereas before I would have had a banana, milk and peanut butter smoothie I now have a banana and mullerlight smoothy,

It is important that newbies know the exact plan and yes when you cook the fruit or puree it, you are changing the composition of the fruit and it has to do with releasing the natural sugars in the fruit, however if you've been on the plan for a while and you have a good grasp of it then I see no harm in the occasional tweak (as I said as long as your prepared to make changes if it does affect your loss)

xxxx

I have to put my tuppence worth in too lol!

According to SW you can't have mashed banana, right??

Well, when you eat it you mash it about in your mouth before you swallow it. What is the difference? Your body wouldn't know how it was mashed in the first place!!!! Especially if it is put in a sandwich or toast as you chew that up too!!!

Oh, and how come you can squish, squash and do what you like with veg????? Some veg have sugar contents too,and like fruit increase when cooked like carrots, parsnip, tomato (fruit I know but classed veg) and many more!!!!!!!!

Everything in moderation. :D If you ate 10 apples (superfree) and 10 diet yogurts (syn free) on top of everything else because you can apparently!!!!!!! You would not lose weight. (unless you has masses to lose of course) You have to burn off more calories than you consume to lose weight - FACT!!!! NOT, always what you eat!!! If by maintaining your current weight you have to eat 2000 calories you will only lose weight if your calorie intake is lower.

Sorry for going off on one but this debate gets on my bloody nerves lol!!

Yes but SW doesnt say that. It says eat what you NEED - until you're NO LONGER HUNGRY. It specifically does NOT say you can eat 10 apples and 10 diet yoghurts just because they're free, it stipulates to eat only until you are satisfied.

Yeah, I know that!! But, you'd be surprised how many people think it means UNLIMITED!!!! I hear it often from people saying I don't know why I put on weight or stayed the same as I've been good all week! And if you ask about what they have eaten they say they ate bucket loads of fruit and mug/pot shots in between meals etc (apparently hungry!!) If you eat enough at breakfast, lunch and evening meal you shouldn't really need to snack in between meals.

I dont agree, theres plenty of people who do far better by eating little and often. Theres nothing wrong with eating "bucketloads" of fruit (or even mugshots) if you really are "hungry" as they say they are.

It works for me, Ive lost over 7 and a half stone doing it this way. I cant face a huge great breakfast or lunch so I prefer to have just a little toast or some fruit and then graze on more superfree if my tum rumbles through the morning. Then lunch will just be some salad or a small amount of leftover soup or hummus or whatever. I might snack on more superfree in the afternoon, or yoghurt or Quorn. My only really big meal is dinner at night.

We're all different, theres no way I could eat a big breakfast and theres nothing whatsoever wrong with snacking between meals.

If theyre not losing it's because theyre eating the wrong stuff or eating when they're NOT actually hungry. I suspect someone eating 10 apples and 10 yoghurts is not actually eating them out of hunger ;)
