Confused By My Doctor

Hi everyone,

I wanted to find out if there was anyone else that has had the same experience as me at all.. I was diagnosed with PCOS 6 years ago, weight gain and heavy, irrgular periods being the trigger. I went for some blood tests last week, and my doctor has told me that they are all now clear, my hormone levels are perfect now and in her words ' well done on the weight loss, you have cured yourself' So I asked her, are you saying I no longer have PCOS and she said thats correct.

Now I thought this was a once you are disgnosed there is no cure, only control...i'm so confused now :sigh:

ok, my understanding (although this might be wrong) is that it is a syndrome, not a disease... to it's a collection of symptoms, and people can have some and not others.. for example, the cysts aren't the main issue cause lots of people have cysts without having PCOS.. so I've always been under the impression that it's possible to reduce the various symptoms down to a minimum or to loose them completely if you've a) not let them get too out of hand in the first place, and b) genuinely have a good healthy lifestyle. either way, the healthier the eating and regular activity, the better it's likely to get.. that's my understanding.. although I also suspect that there are different conditions that are all being lumped together as the same thing. For example, it doesn't surprise me that when i was very over weight and comfort eating, my ovaries didn't like it much, and started doing all the PCOS things anyway, but that wasn't caused by PCOS like PCOS being illness that you catch. I think of it a bit more like tooth decay, obesity or depression, all of which can be resolved, and although they may do some permanent damage if it's left too long, even then, it's really worth getting the right help and doing the right things, because it is recoverable and feels soooo much better when it's dealt with.. if that makes any sense...

might be wrong.. I'm no expert.. but yay for you!!! :) :) :) :) :) I guess it might mean that it'll always be important for you to live an active life.. but what a great incentive to have a fun and active life! Congratulations!

xx

Omg how amazing!! You have just given me so much hope!
I think the main hurdle with PCOS is that the hormone levels are all wrong, which I guess is caused by the obesity.
Well done you

Wow, amazing! Like you say no signs and no symptoms is good enough. What a great story. Congratulations!
