Garlic

I know i'm not allowed garlic on SS+ but I want to know why!
I love garlic and I'm missing it :( How much damage would it do if I had some in my food?

It's probably to do with it being quite high in carbs. 16.3g of carb per 100g. But 100g would be one hell of a lot of garlic - it's more likely you'd only have few grams at the most. So maybe there's another reason why we shouldn't have it?

Anyone got any idea?

Hmm. Well, I've searched the forum, and the general consensus is that strictly speaking, garlic is a no-no - because of the whole 'it may kick you out of ketosis', 'might give you the munchies' thing.

But there's a lot of anecdotal stuff along the lines of, 'I've always used a tiny bit and it's been fine' too.

I think it's one of those 'tweak the diet at your own risk' decisions. The problem with tweaking for some of us is that it can feel a bit like cheating - and feeling as though we've cheated can do funny things to our heads and set us off on binges.

But if you're not one of those people and the thought of having a smidgeon of garlic is driving you crazy, I suspect that you might get away with having a little tiny bit. I cannot imagine that the amount of carbs in a little bit would kick you out of ketosis.

Thankyou :) I don't think a little bit will hurt then. It's not like I'm going to have it in every meal haha. Don't think it would mix well with the stinky ketosis breath!!!!

LOL, no, I was thinking that!

Just watch out for it giving you the munchies, that's all. If you notice that having even a tiny a bit makes you more hungry than usual, then it'd be best to cut it out again.
