maintaining after CD?

Hi everyone. I have been thinking about starting CD but my big worry is that when I stop I will gain all the weight back. I know that on any diet that you lose weight you will gain back the weight, but I plan to have a balanced lifestyle after this, with the occasional treat (chocolate!!). How long have you guys been maintaining for?

Hi, I've maintained for 14 months now. I'm approximately 7lbs heavier than I was when I reached goal but most of that I've put on in the past couple of months. Really plan your maintenance - it is much harder to maintain than it is to lose as it is so easy to fall back into old habits. I'm now using WW to try and lose the 7lbs I put on (and maybe a little more) and it feels a bit depressing to be on a diet again. If you can manage to figure out how much you can eat and maintain and you stick to that - then you are on to a winner.

It's no harder maintaining after CD than any other diet and it's certainly no reason not to diet in the first place. The good thing about CD is that you can get a lot of weight off in the first few weeks when motivation is high - with most other diets only a few lbs will be gone by the time the initial motivation starts to wane.

Good Luck!!

Hi

I've maintained for over 3 years now. It's not easy, but I find sticking to low carb healthy eating is the answer.

I only weigh myself once a week now as I found my weight could go up a few pounds and down again every couple of days and didn't want this to be an excuse to go back to old habits!

I don't regret following CD for a moment and wish I had done it sooner!

Good Luck.

Hi, I reached goal in Feb 2010 and since then have fluctuated by a few pounds - currently I wold like to lose 10lbs or so and am a bit down today after weighing myself following a week of Xmas party do's. HOWEVER, the motivation now is to get back down to the weight I know I can achieve and my attitude has completely changed when I think of that - I almost look forward to getting back there rather than thinking of all of the things I must deny myself. It's like the internal argument in my head has ceased and I know that to maintain a slim figure goes hand in hand with being careful over what I eat, and that will last forever. There cannot be a time when I can go back to eating 'normally' because it was eating 'normally' that put the weight on in the first place.
Alli is right - plan your maintainance when you get there as this really helps. Hope you took the plunge!
You won't regret it
