What to take to work in a thermos?

Im fed up of sarnies and salads at work and we dont have access to a microwave or boiling water (only kinda hot water) so was thinking of using my thermos.

Gonna try soup tomorrow but was looking for other ideas.

Was thinking super noodles but didnt know if cooking and storing for 5hrs before eating would over cook or if i could just mix the water and noodles at work.

Any ideas?

Hi there.

I would say soup too, there is a gorgeous tomato and basil soup in the mag, this months one.

I made a batch and I loved it. Couldn't believe how gorgeous it was, made some of my mum and she wants to know when I'm making it again, going to do a big batch this time so I can freeze some to keep me going when I'm hungry.

Heya

would deffo say soups, theres so many to choose from. My all time fav is curried butternut squash soup. I fry onions and add curry powder to taste, add the butternut squash and a tin of toms, chicken or veg stock and cook until squash is cooked through, and whiz with a hand blender. I have also made the soup that Neveragain above is mentioning, got a huge pan on the hob, yummmy!!!

Saw these in my local cook shop and looked ideal for taking decent hot food to work. Opening up your choices.
With a standard flask your looking at soup really, or as someone else said take the boiling water with you to add to couscous/mugshots etc

But with a food flask you could have stews, chillis, curry and rice ( comes with a spacer for 2 separate items) can get 1 or 2 story flasks too, pasta bake

someone once said that if you put half a packet of the savoury rice (is this still free on green EE?) into a thermos and add water, by the time you come to eat it at lunch time it will be cooked - I don't know if it would be too thick to come out - but it's a good idea me thinks !

Excellent thanks honey. I got a stanley one instead as they had better reviews.

Thanks to everyone for the reply, today i did a tin of heinz tom soup not realising they are 11syns! Looks like ill b making my own in future.

I would invest in the food flask. I love mine. I've made packet pasta in them, just by pouring boiling water and the packet contents and then stirring it and leaving it until I need it at lunch. I don't work, but I have so much on with the three kids, sometimes I'm not home for lunch, so I can just take that and go.

I bought one of these after they were recommended on here, and it's absolutely fab! Now I just need to use it every day for the next six months to justify the price...!

You could make a savoury rice in the morning and eat it cold for lunch (these are still nice cold). Or make the slimming world quiche, scotch eggs, a cold pasta with some sort of sauce. Help mix things up from salads.

I use my food flask for soups, not tried anything else, but home made soup is great. x

If you've got an Asda nearby then you can buy the ready prepped soup veg. I bought the leek and potato pack. You just bung it in the pan, add a litre of boiling water, 2 stock cubes and herbs / spices to taste and simmer for 25 mins. (Well, I did wizz mine round for a couple of secs with the handheld processor thingy). I know I could have saved about 30p and peeled / chopped up the veg, but I'd rather save the time!

waht about baked beans / heinz spaghetti- you could chop up some sausages and add those - or add cheese or loads of other things.

Stew would be good as well as long as you chopped everything up small.

You could use garden peas and chopped meats/ fish - the possiblilites are endless with the only problem being foods that are likely to get stuck like mashed potatoes.

You could probably do a full english - ready cut of course if you set your mind to it! :)
