Consolidation Rice cakes?

As bread is making me a bit bloated, I have decided that my body doesn't like wheat very much any more (especially after the huge slice I had on Saturday night, I felt so tired after eating it (although taste-wise it was lovely).

Anyone ever substituted the daily ration of bread for something else? I wondered about rice cakes (love them with cheese) as long as it's wholegrain rice ones (as then tend to be, I think, the ones I buy anyway).

Or will I have to make do with oatbran biscuits (which are also good but I need porridge when it's cold out)?

hmm a tricky one - I don't see why not really.
I've been having all sorts of breads, mostly wholemeal: German Dark Rye, homemade wholemeal (with or without Rye), WM bagels, tortillas, but of course always some degree of wheat in those. Not sure how you would weigh/measure the rice cakes (presumably they are big ones, not minis?) but I would just find a quantity that looks equivalent rather than weighing it as they're so dry = light. Give it a go and see what happens I'm sure it will work just fine.
Disclaimer: I'm no expert, please refer to the official book ;-)!
If you're not having other bread I suppose you could alternatively also have 60gr of Oatbran bread (biscuits etc) on top of your daily oatbran ration. I thin the idea is to get you accustomed to different types of carbs again sop that would be defeating the objective there.

I dont see why not. I have substituted mine for lebanese bread when i have had a kebab and it hasnt changed my weight. You can only try.

Great stuff! Will have cheese and rice cakes from now on!

I thought about this during my walk this morning Robin. I know nothing about wheat intolerance or rice cakes, so I'll not say a word on that...

BUT, I think I read somewhere that you've still to introduce pasta even into your Conso, and now you're dropping the bread too...

Just something I noted... careful not to make your Conso into an overly low calorie diet, won't you?

Have you tried bread which is often kinder to the digestion, Robin? Bread made with spelt wheat can sometimes be eaten by those who have problems with normal wheat. Or sometimes people can experience difficulties because of additives or the way shop bought bread is made - if you know someone with a bread machine, you could maybe ask them to make you a small loaf to try?

Don't worry, Jo, I have had pasta and do every week (I just don't enjoy it too much and I'm varying what I have too - think I'm happier with fish/meat and veg) and I'm not wheat intolerant (and do like bread) but it tends to bloat me (it probably did pre-diet, but as I had it all the time, I never noticed:eek:).

Today, inspired by Anja, I'm making scotch broth which has loads of grains/lentils in it. That should replace the pasta this week.

I'll eat more pulses/starches as it gets colder too - I need thick soup in winter (soupe au pistou has pasta, potatoes and beans so carb overload and that's one of my favourites!) I don't think I'll lack calories, I'm eating loads! Must pop over to myfitnesspal and see just how many I'm having on an average (carbs) day.

Dukandebut, I do make bread (sometimes) and have loads frozen in the freezer. I generally only have it with cheese though and I can use rice cakes instead. I'll get other carbs elsewhere.

:) :)
