Hi

Was wondering if someone could help. I'm making homemade chips tonight and was wondering about oven times? How long do I part boil them for and also how long in the oven? If anyone could help that would be fab!!

Thanks :)

I'm guessing you may have already attempted the chips as your post was 3 hours ago now.....however, maybe this will help you for next time.
I par boil mine for as long as it takes til the potatoes are soft enough to slide a knife into!! And then into a hot oven, as hot as it will go until they are a nice brown colour!!!
As you can see, I don't do times, I just go buy what things look like!!! lol
Enjoy!

Thanks! Yeh I tried them think I boiled them for too long because they became a bit crumbly, however a bit of paprika and shoved in the oven and they were delicious!!! I'm sure I'll improve :)

I just cut them thinner than potato wedges and put them straight into the oven, i dont par boil them. I just add a bit of paprika and frylight.

I actually don't parboil mine but microwave them for 5-10 mins then put them in the oven for as long as it take to crisp up. By using the microwave the potato softens without getting soggy so it's a bit easier to crisp

Oh that's a good idea thanks!! I'll definitely try that wee tip next time :)

I don't parboil, either. My secret is baking the fries on one of those ventilated baking sheets that you are supposed to use for frozen pizzas.

They also have these mesh basket things called Quikachips which help them to cook quicker/crispier as the hot air can reach all sides if the chips.

I found it in Aldi for £1.99 but some people have found them in pound shops.

I'm all about the home made chips... :eating:

I'll definitely look out for those! Thanks so much for advice everyone!

light sprinkiling of semolina is they way to go!
makes them amazingly crispy

I am new to WW (previous SW lol) how many pro points are in home made chips??

Depends on the raw weight of your potatoe and what you cook them in....

I am not a potatoe fan so don't know ppts per g of poatatoe. Hopeflly someone can fill you in.

Want. And it's much less spendy than an Actifry! :thankyou:

One of the women in my WW group doesn't use cooking spray at all - she coats her oven fries in beaten egg whites before seasoning, and says this adds to the crispness. I haven't tried this, because my kittehs don't like slurping up egg yolks and I hate wasting them.

Oooh I'll definately have to try using egg whites and semolina (not together obviously!) thanks for info!

Well I had another wee attempt tonight at chips and they were delicious!!!!! I put them in the micro, as suggested, for 5 mins then in oven with fry light and paprika.....lovely!! so stuffed now!! :D

I just weighed 250g potatoes and pointed them. I'm still doing old plan to 5pts as I didn't point the one cal spray. Not sure what it would be for pro points but they were well worth the 5pts yum!!! :D

This is what I do with a spray of oil, although I do find they still don't always cook very evenly even on that Aldi chip tray. (damn that Actifry thread).
I sometimes put mine in a collander, add some salt and shake them. This makes them nice and crisp with a salty kick.
