Sarah's New Calorie Counting at Uni Diary!

After another few days of eating badly, I have decided maybe a new diary would be good, for a fresh start. I have had my other diary since April, so 7 months later, I am starting a nice new, shiny one!

I started back in April, and have so far lost 48lbs (3 stone 6lbs) which I am amazingly proud of, however I know if I had stuck to it a bit better, I could have lost even more weight!

I started uni in September and found it OK at first to control my calories, but I have found myself constantly slipping off - and to the extent of large binges, and so I really need to get back on track.

I plan to make more of an effort to update this diary every day, and I will go back to foodfocus and update that more too.

I need to do more exercise too. I am leaving uni for 3 weeks next week and will be living at home as I have a placement - I will make sure I get lots of exercise in at home, and after Christmas (as I will only have another week back at uni after the 3 weeks) I will try to find some exercise classes.

I had another look at my BMR and it is about 1700. To lose 2lbs a week I need to eat 700 calories a day!! Crazy! So, clearly I am not going to do that! But, this week, as I have been so bad the past few weeks, I am going to try to have as few as possible - not to the extent where I am eating badly, but I will make the most of the healthy fish and soups that I have, and will have salad with everything.

Wish me luck :)

Also.....!

Drinking..... I NEED to stop this! We drink so much here, obviously being Freshers, it is part of the course! But, it is my biggest downfall. As soon as I know we are gonna be drinking that night, I let my whole day go out of the window and eat badly. I am going to limit myself to one big night out a week, and luckily I am away for 3 weeks and everyone is running out of money anyway so hopefully that should be OK!

Also, I am going to Australia for a month soon! Very worried about how eating is going to go there - we will have to see I suppose!!

1700?!?!?!? That can't be right, surely you would eat that to lose 1lb a week?!?!?! I would def double check that with another BMR calculator if I were you.

Anyway, good luck, hope your shiney new diary works, I look forward to reading about how you are getting on. xxx

That sounds much more like it! It won't be long and you'll be under the 200lb mark... soooooo jealous!!! You have worked so hard, I hope you feel very proud. x

Nice to see your shiny new diary Sarah.

Am with you on the drinking thing....it always screws up my best intentions so have made a little pledge with myself to avoid it as much as possible until christmas!

Good luck!

Your BMR is probably 1,700 when you're resting. Once you apply your level of activity to it, it should go up - unless you're very sedentary. My BMR is quite low (1,400) but because I'm active it will go up to around 2,000 (so to lose 2 pounds a week I would have to eat 1,000 calories a day).

Hitting children definately requires more calories, I know that's where I burn a lot of mine... tee hee!!! xxx

Wow 48lb! That must've taken a lot of hard work so well done! (i'm jealous :jelous:)

I'm also a student - though at college and not university. Good luck with your new diary, let it put a new spring in your step. :D:D

I weighed myself on my scales I have at uni yesterday - they are cheap ones from Sainsburys so I am reluctant to use them. I weighed 14 stone 10lbs (206lbs). Had a really good day yesterday - was 100% and weighed in again and am now 14 stone 6 lbs (202lbs). Hope these scales are right! I know when I put on a little bit of weight, I only need a couple of days of being absolutely perfect with my food and drink and I will lose it fairly quickly.

I really can't wait until next week when I go home and can see what the damage is on the digital scales!!

Today:

B: none
L: Tesco Healthy Living seeded wrap (167), 40g Philadelphia with chives (62), 4 slices of wafer thin ham (40), salad (0). Mini Cheddars (129). Galaxy Ripple (176) 574
D: 2 Cod Cakes (170), salad (0), spaghetti (100), a few sundried tomatoes (54) 324

TOTAL FOR DAY: 907

No exercise as I have essay deadlines so my day is spent at my PC! Nice low day though, as was yesterday, so I may have a yoghurt later too if I get hungry.

:)

Cooked my fish cakes - or thought I had but I had forgotten to flip the switch! Was hungry so made an omelette instead! Works out at pretty much the same calories, maybe 10 more... so that was good!

Was really lovely! I had 3 eggs, might leave out the yolks next time. I used a whole tin of mushrooms, and filled the middle of the omelette with some cream cheese - was so lush! Had it with salad, and some beetroot and sundried tomatoes.

Pudding was some tinned pineapple and tinned peaches, with a tiny bit of crunchy cereal.

LOVELY!

Had to go in to a primary school today and felt awful - really shaky and had been up loads in the night. My lecturer was so worried that he drove me back instead of letting me get the bus and took me to the doctors - turns out I have a kidney infection. I only had one 2 months ago so am gutted I have another!!

So, I am lying in bed with a hot water bottle, feeling very sorry for myself and in pain! :(

Today's food:

B: toast (190), spread (35) 225
L: mini cheddars (129), Maltesers (183) 312

No idea what I will have for dinner, and lunch was rubbish but I could hardly get out of bed so just had what was in my room!

Total for today so far is 540.

Plus side of kidney infection - antibiotics so cannot drink alcohol - big saving of calories there! Plus, I don't feel hungry so hopefully saving there!
