Aaaargh....frustrating! And it's only week 3!

Lost in the Supermarket
Hi All, I'm new

On my first week on SW I lost 5lb (yay) and found it really easy and quite enjoyable.

Then, on my second week, after eating practically exactly the same stuff and keeping my syns to a minimum, i put 2lb on

And now, halfway through week three, i'm feeling bloated and guilty (even though i'm not doing anything wrong)

I've been really anal with my measurements, well behaved with my syns (one bar of chocolate all week, first for me), careful with any alcohol measurements (which i've kept to a minimum anyway) and have gone out of my way to try out new recipes and such.

So I'm just a bit gutted I suppose :sigh:
And a bit frustrated. I'm obviously doing something wrong, but I have no idea what

:devilangel::devilangel:

hey sometimes your body just works in mysterious ways on my first week i also lost 5lb and all i seemed to do was eat! Then 2nd week gained 1.5lbs which was totally unexpected, i really had stuck to plan, 3rd week i gained another 2.5lbs! although didnt stick to plan 100% and following week lost 3.5lbs so its still a total loss of 4.5lbs keep the bigger picture in mind, I try to drink as much water as i can, just stick with it and maybe start a food diary? xx

Like the post above says, sometimes it takes your body to adjust to a new way of eating. Don't forget other things effect how you weigh on different days. Just by looking around these boards you KNOW the plan works - keep at it. You could always start a food diary, so the experienced sw-ers can have a look and see if you are slipping up anywhere (they are brilliant!) Plus it helps to write everything down. Drink lots of water and lots of superfree foods:) good luck! xxxxxx

Thanks Lindsay....I've been keeping the food diary i've been given by my consultant but I didn't really feel like she offered any constructive feedback when I put the 2lb on, and she didn't really offer any advice when she read through what I had eaten. I think that is what put me off a bit really.

I'm still getting to know my way around the forum, so hopefully i'll pick up some good tips and get back on track for week 4!

Just a thought are you having at least 5 syns per day & if doing EE making sure you have 1/3 plate superfree?

Otherwise keep at it, it does work:)

Yep, I was going to pick up on the syns as well. It's tempting to avoid them altogether -especially as once you've had a taste of something naughty you may want loads of it - but it's really important that you average between 5 and 15 a day. Cutting them back isn't sustainable long term and might prevent you getting the losses you want :)

I've been really strict with my syns, on my worst week I had a total of 49 all week (and that included a trip to a Greek restaurant!). Last week, when I put on 2lb, I'd had 24

I find it quite easy to have no syns at all, I'm not really a sweet person and I've found it easy to make syn free meals that both me and my bf enjoy. Plus, we are in the process of buying a house so we are really poor!! Can't even afford syns!! Ha

Thanks for the help guys, my weigh in is on tuesday so i'm keeping my fingers (and legs, and toes) crossed.

24 syns isn't enough!! You need to find ways to fit them in, they're an important part of the plan (do a quick search, you'll find loads and loads of threads explaining the reasons why!), and as strange as it seems, by not having enough you could be stunting your losses.

I know what you mean about it being easy to have no syns - I can quite happily go a day without having any, and daren't allow myself any 'proper' chocolate, alcohol etc to use them up because I know I'll go overboard. In fact, I've been sitting here tonight trying to figure out what I can use some syns on, because I do weekly syns and still have 75.5 syns to play with before Tuesday night!!

If you're seriously struggling with ways of fitting syns in, could you use oil instead of frylight? Sugar instead of sweetener? Add mayo or ketchup or gravy to meals? Salad dressings?

Try and find a way to fit them in - they're not bad, they're part of the plan for a reason. It'll help you later on when you start feeling deprived (I can almost guarantee you will!) and if you don't use them now, you'll be scared to use them in future. Use them and enjoy them!!

I lost just 1lb on my first week and was devastated! - it was explained as my body may have been adjusting to the plan! - week two, following the same I lost 6lb!!

The following two weeks, I also felt bloated and fat. First week I lost 3lb and this last week, again feeling fat and heavy, lost 4lb!

So after losing 1lb and being gutted, after 4 weeks I've lost a stone, yet always felt heavy etc. - it just goes to show - trust the plan and follow the rules........

I can't fathom why I feel this way - perhaps an in-built pessimism?

I'm sure everyone has similar tales to tell.

Laura- thankyou for your advice I will bear that in mind! My problem is that I can't eat one chocolate bar I have to eat 4, so I have been shying away from them. Switching to oil is probably a brill idea, I can't stand the smell of frylight

Maximus, that has spurred me on! I shall not give up!

xx

Jez, you may find that if you enjoy chocolate but dont want to overdo it, that something like a fibre plus bar and a sachet of highlights hot chocolate will give you a filling chocolatey fix without you having a chocolate bar. You can have a fibre plus as a healthy extra B and a highlights for 2 syns and feel like you have treated yourself - or you can syn the fibre plus if you have used your Hex B elsewhere during the day, or need to have something to use your syns up with.

They have kept me happily "chocolatey" for months now - without the need to eat an actual chocolate bar.

I agree about the options.........a great sweet fix and a way of having some of your syns. Also not expensive in the U.K. Twice the price here.

Stick with it. You will get there and soon you will see great results.

Alcohol really represents empty calories. Do you syn it ??

My favourite way of using syns is a tbsp of sunflower oil to cook mushrooms, onion and garlic which on a green day is the main part of my meal with lots of veg and boiled new potatoes or on a red day a perfect meat accompaniment.

You say you are really poor at present. We are too, lots of reasons. Green days are cheapest and I love them. I fill up on spicy veg and SW baked egg and chips, baked beans, mushy peas, all relatively cheap. My green day luxury is quorn. I love the sausages and make them into a quorn and roasted red pepper burger which is delicious and super filling and satisfying served with SW chips, and roasted veg. A bonus is the whole meal cooks in the oven so you save money on fuel bills too.
