Staying away from the scales

Hey, I've had a little break from actively trying to lose weight.. and now I'm back, happy, exercising lots, feeling fit, and eating better.

Thing is, I have no inclination to weigh myself. I don't want to know and yes a part of me knows I'll be annoyed that I'm not losing as much as I hope for (especially with the exercise).

I know roughly what my weight was a week or so ago. I used to weigh daily and that suited me fine. Things have just changed and cause I feel quite motivated in myself it gives me a tad less to worry about, if you understand?

I plan on taking it day by day. Maybe after a while I'll see how I'm doing. Maybe I'll just keep going by clothes. Maybe I'll go back to weighing regularly. Who knows? :)

Anyone feel similar? xx

Alot of people seem to think it's bad to weight yourself daily, but I completely disagree. It's my way of staying on top of my weightloss

me, too TRISTAR...

I think if I worked and worked in a week and only weighed in once a week and didn't lose a significant amount, that would really depress me. I weigh in daily so there are no real surprises when I go to get weighed in by my counselor.

Likewise, wake, write my dream, bathroom scales plot it on the graph.

For some people it is inappropriate for them to weigh everyday because ( maybe) there is so much emotion about the result, it can become less of a simple feedback measurement and more of a weighing of their self worth. Whatever the reason when someone makes a pronouncement on daily weighing which is supposed to apply to everyone or or against , I ignore it.

it works for me, infact when I don't do it weigh daily either I was really busy one day and dashed out the house or its because I am denial and I want to keep myself there for a while:break_diet:

I'd drive myself nuts if I weighed in every day. I used to do a midweek wi and ended up giving that up too. One week I had lost 4lbs by my midweek wi and was gutted i didn't lose more by my official wi. If I hadn't had my mid week one I'd have been delighted with 4

Too many people on here are obsessive daily weighers but then panic when their weight fluctuates. I think if you can do it daily and not get stressed by the results fair enough but me? I'll stick to once a week x

Thanks for the replies and it is interesting (though it makes perfect sense, what with us all being so... unique!) how everyone is different and different weighings suit different people.

Something I found when i used to weigh daily was that if I did have an awful day foodwise and eat everything in the fridge and everything out of it.. I didn't gain as much as I was scared I would. I found if I didn't weigh myself on the day after I would slip further and further into bad eating habits, thinking I had gained an elephant when I had not.

Weighing everyday brought up worries for me though. You have to be quite strong in some way to be able to deal with the fluctuations, and be able to think about the bigger picture and not 'oh no, I've gained a lb since yesterday' which happens. Sometimes I can be rational and calm and learn to accept things and carry on boogie-ing along! And sometimes not. :)

And then I can become obsessive about it and that's what I want to stop. For me, I want getting healthy to be relaxing and fun. Dare I say that?! I enjoy the gym, and doing my silly little exercises at home in front of the telly. I enjoy challenging myself. I enjoy discovering new fresh colourful foods - and eating them of course! ;) So I feel like a battle with the scale can get me feeling a tad miserable.

On the other hand - how great it is to see the concrete evidence of numbers going down. It's something you can measure and hang onto and aim for.

Hmm. Ponderings.

I agree. I dont log my weight every day, just the once at my Slimming World meetings, but I do jump on the scales quite often. In fact, most times when I go to the bathroom. I dont specifically go to weigh myself, I just do it when I'm there.

For me it is a simple feedback measure but I agree with you that some people do put more emotional weight to their readings and for those, its probably not a good idea to weigh more than once a week.

i weigh myself once a week..i scale hopped once and i was on edge all week.weight goes up and down throughout the week,i would hate knowing my weight has gone up half way through the week.

i know a few monthly weighers, couldnt go that long without a wi

I weigh every couple of days or so, just to check if anything disasterous has happened and hopefully save the situation before I record my weight on the Saturday.

I weigh myself everyday and i wish i didn't as i think i would try and work harder if i didn't know. I must try and start doing it once a week.

I think I just made a huge mistake by weighing myself a day early.
I was quite optimistic this week, then stupidly got a chinese for tea tonight, then I went on the scales at 1030pm and saw I'd put on 3lbs.

Is there any hope for me tomorrow night??? The time I should weigh in is around 7ish!
I am gonna be supergood tomorrow.
xx

I don't have scales at home because I would be on them all the time and I would feel disappointed if I thought I wasn't doing well.

I go once a week to lighterlife lite and am weighed there. That works for me.

i used to weight myself every day, gradulayy down to once aweek and i now dont use them at all, used them just today after 4 weeks
