cheese on toast

Not sure this is exactly a recipe query, but couldn't think where else to post!

I do red and green days and I love having my extra HexA/B for 'naughty' TV snacks like cheese on toast. My problem has been finding the right rf cheddar to use - the one I have at the moment (supermarket own brand) melts a bit like plastic and coats my teeth!! Has anyone tried (and would recommend) any rf cheddars that melt more like real cheese??

Thanks :)

I used to only buy Cathedral City lighter as I hadn't noticed there was a Tesco own brand reduced fat cheddar.
I now buy own brand and find that it does not melt nearly as nicely as the Cathedral city so you could try giving that a go :)

If I do cheese on toast I use mozarella and add mushrooms, onions etc. It's not cheddar but I like it because it really bubbles nicely.

Got to be Cathedral City light, the only cheese i have found that melts like normal cheese and has a really yummy mature flavour. Give it a go and let us know.

Cool - thanks for the tips, I will get some in my next shop!

I also like the idea of mozzarella...could turn cheese on toast into a kind of pizza if I add chopped/cooked toms, onion and ham/mushroom maybe. The possibilities are endless!!

The Tesco 30% reduced fat extra mature cheese is lovely and melts well. Big blocks of it are on offer at 2 for £5 at the moment!
