Hello / 2nd Day headaches?

Hi folks,

I just started on Exante Total yesterday. It was a relatively easy start, and actually quite liking the shakes which is a bonus.

Woken up this morning though with cracking headaches. Is it too soon for these to be related to the diet? I drank somewhere between 4 and 5 litres of water yesterday so don't think I am dehydrated... very odd for me to get headaches otherwise...

What else should I expect in the first few days if this is Exante related?

Steve

Hi and welcome. Men's bodies tend to react quicker than women's so it's possible that it's the start of ketosis. I guess it also depends on the amount of carbs and sugar you were having before you started as it's withdrawal from these that gives you a headache.
As for what to expect next, well are you sure you want to know?!!
Metal taste in your mouth, dog breath, constipation, the runs lol. Take your pick! But you may get none at all.
The more water you drink the fewer symptoms you'll get and you seem to be having plenty.
The big bonus is the quick weight loss, and once again for men it's even quicker.
Good luck :)

Thanks Kitty,

It could well be either sugar or caffeine withdrawl. In a completely illogical step I spent the weekend finishing off all the nice food and drink in the house, so probably a higher than average intake of both... at least no temptations around now, except when my very mean wife sent me to the shops last night.

I am drinking what feels like a crazy amount of water - we have really bad water at home where they keep digging the roads up so have been drinking bottled. Scary how many 500ml bottles I went through when I got home.

Also had to call the water cooler people in the office today... who would have thought water would become my friend so quickly...

I've not seen any first week stats from men on Exante on the forum as yet - any ideas what the typical first week loss is on Total?

Day 1 wasn't too bad for me. I had psyched myself up for it since the shakes arrived last week.
I got quite hungry early evening - but suspect it was largely psychological as it came on when I had to go to the supermarket for the wife, and was worsened when she insisted on watching Masterchef...

So yesterday I managed one of each shake flavour, and lots of water and nothing else.

Today's been quite easy going bar the headaches. Some ibuprofen and paracetamol has them under control for now. Worryingly have drunk about 2.5 litres of water already - just feel continually thirsty.

I've picked perhaps the worst week to do this - have a huge deadline next Monday, but I figured if anything there'll be less distractions as I wont be leaving the desk much.

The Exante literature and website are pretty terrible. Have seen some suggestion that I should be doing just the shakes etc for 3 weeks then introduce normal food to the diet again.... is that the method you're following?

Noooo! You add a meal to your 3 packs (no more than 400 cals from the allowed list on page 16 of the book) in week 5 then back to total for another 4 weeks then add a meal again for a week and so on until you're at goal. Don't add anything else unless you find it impossible and move to working solution.

Hi, i am just finishing my first week (get weighed tomoro)and i had the headache from hell for about 3 days and even during the night it was wakening me up, was begining to think there was something wrong with me and it wasnt the diet, but!!!! pleased to say it has gone and i am realy into it, drinking 2-3 ltr of water and feeling good ,

Thanks swivlehips,

Good to hear it's going well a few days further on.

I think my body might just be progressing v quickly, terrible breath and taste in my mouth has hit this afternoon. So glad I keep a toothbrush and toothpaste in the car for emergencies, not that it helps for more than 10 mins... *joys*

It'll be worth it in the end, right?

Steve

Goodluck mr, Sounds like its all kicking in quickly for you which hopefully is a good thing as it will be over before you know it :)

keep up the good work and Ill be joining in on Exante once I have been paid Woo Hoo xx

few weeks in...

Hey everybody,

So a fair while since I first posted.

I've had a tough month or so with work (shouldn't have started a diet just before an impossible deadline) - but have largely stuck to dieting throughout.

Unfortunately had a few prior meals with friends and things that I couldn't avoid so I have been dipping in and out of the total solution on occasion, but it still seems to be having a positive effect.

I've lost exactly 2 stone since I started - probably could have been a bit better without the blips, but I'm pretty happy with how it's going.
It's made a really noticeable difference - really trying to hold out buying new jeans for as long as possible, but it is starting to get a bit comical having to hold onto the belt loops wandering around super markets.

I finally found a good way of making the milkshakes up in the office without them being all lumpy too - I bought a 'maximuscle' shaker from Amazon and it's fab. Makes the shakes really smooth and much more tasty.

In other exciting (to me) news I never unpacked the boxes of milkshakes I bought properly until earlier this week, when I discovered there were 4 flavours not 3. The addition of some strawberry into the mix has really cheered me up this week.

How do the rest of you handle days where you have to (social reasons) eat a meal? My approach has been to just go straight back on the milkshakes only afterwards, but wondering if there's a better approach?

Thanks
Steve

Firstly well done on the 2 stone, thats such a great start and keep it up.

With regards social occasions I havent done any yet, but I suppose try and stick to high protein, low carb meals and then just carry on as normal with the packs

keep up the good work

x

personally i try sticking to Zero Carb meals, e.g. order a chicken dish etc, easiest way is to order a burger and not eat the buns, this way theres a chance it wont knock you out of ketosis.

also i noticed your earlier post about the breath, boots have an own brand extra strentgh breath spray called smile, designed for smokers, £1.99 and lasts for weeks, its a lifesaver and easier than keeping a toothbrush :)
