Hi all i would like to start off by introducing myself .I am a 35 year old women from ireland and i have been low carbing since jan 2010 and doing full atkins since june 2010 .I am a long time lurker to your forum and it has helped me stay on track at the start and given me so much advice .

I love atkins it is now a way of life for me .I reached my goal weight 6 weeks ago and i have been maintaining no problem for the last 6 weeks .Its a long time since i actually felt i was on a diet and i lead a very active life where atkins fits in just perfect .I have meals out etc and just stick to the lowest carb options etc .My skin is glowing and my cellulite is gone as is my tummy post 2 children and its flat as pre children.I am back in a size 10 .I am very much a success story so what's the problem you may ask .

Well here is where i need the help .I have had some very bad news on blood resutls today .I started feeling dizzy and slightly unwell last week .Of to the gp where i had high blood pressure .Now i have had some stress in my life actually most people call it a car crash but i dont see it too bad:)So i was putting it down to that .Anyway got blood results today and my cholesterol was 7.7 and bp 160/105 not good .

I told the gp a rough outline of what i eat and she did not seem concerned and felt my diet was balanced enough .She did say 2 eggs a day maybe a bit much but would not account for that high a level .I am at a loss .I have to start on inderel a beta blocker and she will review me nect week again .She took more bloods to check thyroid and blood sugars toady and says will repeat the cholesterol in a month .No treatment for the cholesterol as i dont smoke or drink much .

I am terrified i am going to have to give up eating as i do:cry: .She said and i agree that this is the best she has seen me look in years and i am glowing .Its all very strange so any advice appreciated .Sorry for the long post:confused:

Hi Ali, and don't panic! Your GP sounds sensible and hopefully will get the blood pressure sorted out for you. It's scary when you get news like that, but I'd let it all sink in before making any major decisions on the diet - like your doc says, you've done brilliantly on low carb. :)

People get fixated on their cholesterol, but you may have inherited that from your parents - it could have been like that for years too.

Oooh and, your start and finish BMIs are almost exactly the same as mine Ali - feels great, doesn't it!

I agree completely with Water.

You've done so well, so hang in there for a few days and see what your GP says, it may just be the stress you're experiencing.

Susie :)

Thanks so much for the replies :D I can see myself getting quickly hooked here .I really do think its the stress myself and that once my body calms down the rest will follow .She was not too upset re the cholesterol as she said it can swing up and down day to day and will get a better picture when my bp is under control .

It is possible its hereditary i am adopted so no medical history available .She just kept saying i looked so much better than the last time i was there so as to be a bonus .

Waterworks wow great loss also its great to get into the healthy bmi range .I have just had a chocolate mim and some whipped cream .My friends are astonished when they see what i eat and the inside of my fridge :)I was trying to decide at one stage weather to try for another 7lbs but i decided to stick with what i am now as my body itself just seemed to settle there and made the decision for me . I can never see me eating any other way other than i do now .I used to suffer with ibs which is also gone on atkins

Alibabs, how did you feel when you went to the doctors? Did the BP test stress you out at all? My OH was diagnosed with high BP, but when we bought and used a BP machine at home it was much lower. He stressed out when he had it done at the doctor.

I wouldn't worry about your cholesterol, there are FAR worse diet types out there! Small glass of medicinal red wine every night (might be old wives tale, but it seemed to work for my dad) :)

Hi Ali I'm a bit late responding, but I wanted to welcome you anyway.
