I really really need to lose alot of weight. I have just pilled it on as I have gotten older! Anyway..I am meeting with my long distance boyfriend at the end of january and I cannot bare him to see me like this! HELP! for the past couple weeks I have cut out all junk food, and have now got a gym membership..I am going to go 3-6 times a week depending on how much I am working. I try to burn 600-700 calories atime. I am 5'8 and 20stone 8 pounds. How much is possible to lose in 3.5 months? I don't have long..is 4 stone doable? I am keeping my calorie intake under 1200? How low should I go???

Any help would be amazing..

I am so depressed at him seeing me this big.

You've posted this in the Slimming World section but also mention you are counting calories. Which plan are you following?

Welcome AviX.

4 stone may be possible but is a very big target in that space of time. I also don't think you should try and restrict too much. I know it will lead to bigger losses but it will make you feel deprived which will increase the risk that you will 'fall off the wagon'. I also think that as much as it's tempting, you need to try and think of this as a way of life. There is no point in losing all that weight (which I'm sure you can) just to put it all back on again, which you are much more likely to do with a 'crash diet'. What plan are you doing ? You will get lots of support here but it's best to try and stick to the plan (this is the SW forum) so that you can maintain it.

I totally understand where you are coming from but try to be patient. It will be a much better plan in the long term. If you've lost 1,2 or 3 stone, I'm sure that will impress him and you'll be much more likely to keep it up.

Good luck !

4 stones in 3.5 months. VERY unlikely on SW or CC, thats the top end of the losses on a VLCD. Its extremely unlikely youll manage that or noone would be doing VLCDs lol.

SW say you can lose around half a stone a month... that works out about the same if youre CC.

If youre doing a food based plan then youre going to have to set your target a lot lower. If you do want to lose that kind of weight youre going to have to try a VLCD, and even then you might not achieve it

I hope no-one is offended by what I am going to say, none is intended, but I would be very concerned about the OP doing either a VCLD or a restricted calorie diet as well as burning 600 kcal a day through exercise- not only because of the health risks but because they would be putting themselves into the starvation mode and wouldn't lose at all well. The maths doesn't add up- fe if the OP is on 1000 cals a day, then burns 600, that's an overall intake of 400 cals and that's dangerously low and totally unsustainable.

OP - I know it's important to you to lose some weight before you meet this guy, but you still need to do it healthily and safely without causing yourself any harm. Your body needs a certain number of calories per day just to function, and it's more than you are planning on consuming. Push that even lower with heavy duty exercise and you may not lose much at all, because your metabolism won't work properly.

Please be careful - find the plan that you can work with best and do that but don't overdo it. It will be counterproductive. You can still lose a substantial amount of weight, you have over 3 months - but do it sensibly - this guy is not going to make you step on a set of scales when you meet- but i understand that you want to be more confident and you WILL be, but you will also be in good health.

Hi AviX and how exciting to have such a lovely target to aim for.

As a guide, I started at a slightly lighter weight than you and I lost 3 stone in my first four months doing Slimming World (in the following 2.5 months I am yet to lose another stone in total but that's a different story!). I followed the Extra Easy plan and worked my way up to Platinum Body Magic (so lots of gym stuff). I've seen others on here do more in their first few months.

I agree that you should steer clear of any non-food type diets when doing that amount of exercise. Slimming World Extra Easy is perfect for you. Your target may be a little high but if you adjust it a bit, then with 100% commitment, I think you could make it.

The weight didnt go on overnight, its not going to come off overnight.

We should all do well to remember this Sandy. Thank you. :)

Avix - find something to suit you. No matter what you lose it's a loss after all. I find when people set unrealistic targets and they don't hit them, then it's usually a route to self sabotage.

Just stick to whatever plan you choose and follow it 100% then whatever weight you do lose will be the best you can hope for.

Well said.

I would like to give a HUGE Thankyou to everyone, I have never had such amazing and encouraging advice! I am new to this site so sorry if I posted this in the wrong area. I am not on slimming world..and have not heard of it..I would be garetful if someone told me a little about it? I am saving for my flight to australia so money is tight..would that be a problem? I assume by non food diet you mean not restyricting what I eat? I am so happy to hear that this goal is achievable...I will try to do it as safely as possible. I am not starving myself for sure. Just staying away from high fat and calorie food. So 1200 is ok? I constantly feel guilty for eating! Love! and hugs! AviX

A non food diet is one where you dont eat any food... not one with no restrictions

Your target is really only achievable if you do a VLCD, like Cambridge or Exante which involves eating no food and having packs/shakes only.

The loss youre looking for really ISNT going to happen on something like Calorie counting or Slimming World

People on a VLCD get big losses because their calorie intake is so low, and even on those get around a stone a month so your target is ambitious even for that.

For something like SW/CC, being realistic, its going to be pretty impossible

Ok thanks Starlight,

I am just don't know what to do. I have no idea how much I can lose in that amount of time.

Thanks for your timexx

Hiya hun :)

No need to be counting calories AND doing bonkers amounts of exercise, Ive been on slimming world for 2 and a half months and have lost 31lbs without doing much working out like AT ALL lol... so if you follow the slimming world plans.. (ie you arent starving yourself then) AND head to the gym 3 times a week... im sure you will be suprised at your weight loss... even losing some of my weight has made me feel loads better about myself so dont be too hard on yourself if you dont make it to target in 3.5 months

GOOD LUCK!!!

Keep us informed of your progress honey bun xxxxx

Thankyou larara! I mean it! I am actually not on slimming world...I may have posted in the wrong place, sorry I am new. Anyway..Yes I love minimins...so encouraging! So will keep coming. I am actually really new to knowing about diets. Is slimming world good? I will look it up..thankyou! AviX

Yep, a realistic and healthy weight loss on SW/WW/RC/CC is 1-2lb a month. Some lose more, some lose less.
On a VLCD diet like CD or exante you will lose a lot more.

It's up to you, there are so many diets out there and they all work when followed correctly.
