Possibly have PCOS - this is all new to me!

I went to see the GP yesterday because I am worried about a lack of menstrual cycles becuase it's been nearly 2 months since my last period and I was getting concerned - not least becuase I have a boyfriend and babies aren't on our schedule for the time being.

GP mentioned that PCOS could be an underlying cause due to my weight (I am 5ft5 and 99kg!) but I cannot be blood tested until I have my next period - but when that'll be who ruddy knows.

She also said insulin resistance can occur and weight can be hard to shift - the insulin resistance worries me (maternal grandmother is diabetic) and obviously I have a heck of a lot of KGs to shift.

I would also like to go on the combined pill but with a BMI of 36 I can't even go anywhere near the combined pill at the moment.

Basically looking for general info/advice about you ladies who have PCOS beacuse like I said in my title it's all new to me!

Hey Curvy Lass, I also have PCOS - diagnosed at 14 due to persistent acne. I am no expert on it by any means! I am trying to lose weight atm and mine comes off v v slowly indeed, partly to do with the PCOS. I just wanted to say try not to get disheartened by it - it does shift eventually! If you can bear it in addition to other diets you are on there are things you can eat to minimise your symptoms such as swapping white and brown bread, rice, pasta for brown (i have a book at home, ill have a peek in it later!) I must admit, thats the thing i find most difficult - trying to do any normal diet whilst eating for PCOS! Just one thing from experience - i was diagnosed by a scan - you could maybe ask your GP about that? At least that way you are not waiting around wondering!! All the best! Sam xxx
