Hi,

I'll let you all know a little bit about me before I ask for your help. I have been reading the forums loads and not posting for ages and you are all such an inspiration to me.

I lost 7.5 stone on slimming world in a year and a bit then spent another year fannying about but now I want to shift the second half.

I'm currently trying slimfast! I really wanted to try exante TS but my hubbie is really not keen on the whole no food! thing so I thought I'd break him in gently with slimfast first but well quite frankly I'm getting fed up with it I was 100% this week and put on yes put on 2.5lb I'm a big girl and it should be dropping off me. Anyway sorry for the long post what I wanted to ask was how did you convince the loved ones in your life that no food was the way forward???

Oh and one other thing how do you mix the soups say if you are at work do they mix OK in a shaker??

thanks if you've got this far!!

hi, and welcome and WOW you have done brilliant so far!

I like slim fast, but needed to completly forget about the food thing! worrying about what weighs what, fat content ect ect! My hubby has been very supportive, but I followed VLCD last year and did really well, I kept most of it  off!

It's not a long term thing, it is only for now, in months time you will be able to enjoy eating again, but you will be more focused (as you think about food alot haha)

Also with slim fast I always found it never took your hunger away IYSWIM? where with VLCD after 3-4 days it's gone, it it just whats in your mind, you know you don;t need the food (but it can smell lush:eek:) again, for now we can't, and when we can we will make different choices

Sorry if no help but thats how I look at it lol!

Hi well done on your loss so far, you've done brilliantly.

Re the not eating food, my hubby was fine with it as he knew I'd looked into it and that I wouldn't do anything that would generally put me at risk. I did explain that I'm more than likely putting myself at risk being the weight I am!

It's lovely that your oh has these concerns for you :)

Re the soups, I just use a large mug and a teaspoon, adding the water in parts and stirring while at same time squashing any lumps of powder on the side of the cup... Can't do that with the shakes tho!

Thanks for your replies guys I think Exante may be the way to go for me. Just need to work on the hubbie! I hope to be back on this forum soon on my own journey, until then I'll keep reading your experiences with interest.

Slimfast will obviously work as a low calorie diet, but it wont get you into ketosis as it contains sugar of all things. Whereas a low carb meal replacement such as Exante will and will stop the hunger and get the weight moving quicker, in theory anyway lol.

Ive been on Exante for almost 2 weeks, but had lost a substantial amount prior to changing over to Exante. My weight has decided to go into a plateau now and my weight loss stalled for 10 infuriating days, but is now moving down again thank god.

I really like Exante, love all the shakes bars and soups (except the VILE tomato soup) and quite honestly i just never feel hungry on it bar the 2nd day when i felt crappy and hungry all day, but once i got past that its been plain sailing, except for the weight plateau of course, but i was heading for that anyway.

Its pretty cheap considering, a months supply is about £104 with delivery charge, but you can also buy smaller amounts on ebay if you just want to try it to see how you get on for a few days with it before outlaying a lot of money.

I totally understand where you are coming from with responses from hubby over not eating 'real food'. I had exactly the same issue with my dear hubby too, he was NOT happy, even though i was eating tiny amounts of food before (around 500 to 600 cals a day). And having my weight stall for a week or more has not helped my case any either, but he is getting used to it now and doesnt really comment anymore.

Meant to add, do NOT mix soups in a shaker, not if you want the whole thing exploding everywhere. I stir the powder slowly into the hot water whisking with a fork as i go. You might still get a few small lumps but you can squash those out.

Hi Janey

Well done on your amazing weight loss so far.

You don't necessarily need to have shakes or soups at work. I take in a bar to eat, because I think it is easier than faffing around with a shaker. In the mixed box (one month for £104-ish), it works out to one shake, one bar and one soup a day. Obviously you could have two soups or two shakes if the fancy takes you, but it does include one bar each day.

My husband has no concerns about the VLCD thing. I think he realises that I am very unhappy being so overweight and that it is so bad for my health.

Wish you luck whatever you decide to do. :)

I love Slim Fast, it's cheap, tastes lovely, but there's just too much room for slip ups and I slipped up a lot!

Well done on your 7st loss!! That's fantastic.

To get my way with the OH I roped him into doing it with me. Now I don't have to watch him eat, and I've got great support and a diet buddy right at home :D ...is that an option for you? xx

I hope he comes round to your way of thinking soon, if not there's always bribes? Sex ban maybe? LOL

my hubby keeps looking in the cupboard saying I wonder if I could stick to it (he could do with losing 2 stone himself).

sorry for not answering you work question, I work from home so don't have that problem:eek:

Hi there

Fantastic weightloss to date good on you!

My hubby went on the diet with me. Well we both start lipotrim (pharmacy) and whilst he stayed on lipotrim I've moved over to Exante. I am like your loved ones and I don't think food replacement is necessarily the best way to diet. What convinced me was when i realised it's not particularily healthy having a Bmi that is S Obese. So I thought I'll give it a month and see how I get on. Now on week 7 and can only see the positives. Hubby will be on refeed from next week. He has lost 3stone ish, and the health benefits have been superb e.g fitness, blood pressure etc.

Mixing at work. I usually have a bar at lunch time.
But for Discreet mixing use one of the small milk frothers. The Bodum ones are currently £3ish in Sainburys. But you will need a tall glass or Jug . Bodum Schiuma Milk Frother - Tea & coffee - Cookware - Home and garden - Sainsbury’s

Good Luck with what ever you decide to do.

Ps A couple of aunts and Uncles of mine started the TFR last year and at the point I had no notion of joining but after seeing how wonderful they had done, I jumped on the bandwagon! :)
