My first gain since joining sw :(

So every weigh in since I joined has resulted in a loss. I was 1lb off my 2 stone award, and weigh in this week showed a 1lb gain! This is sooooo demotivating, struggling to stop myself having a chocolate binge now!

Didn't think I'd eaten too badly this week, but it's been the first week I haven't kept a food diary. My mom had a heart attack last week, and it's been a bit of a worrying and hectic week to say the least.

So now I have to try to stay focused, really want to lose 2lb this week so I can say I've lost 2 stone, which means I'm half way to my goal. Losses have started to slow anyway, so think I need to start doing some sort of exercise. It's just finding the time that's the problem!

Oh bless you (((hugs))) How is your mum now?

Now come on, you know how good you are going to feel next week with a loss! :D xx

Mom's not too bad, thanks. Was a mild heart attack apparently, but still scary stuff. She has scan on Monday so will know more then.

Just feel so disappointed at a gain! I'm awful when things go wrong, just usually throw my hands in the air and give up. But I'm not going to, gonna try extra hard this week. 1lb gain is nothing compared to the 26lb I've lost since joining, right? I refuse to let 1 measley little lb get in my way lol

Linda, this happened to me 2 weeks ago. I got on the scales to an inexplicable 1.5lb gain. It isnt nice when it happens, but just sometimes, it will, for no good reason, or because of upcoming arrival of menstrual cycle, or coz you had a big lunch that day, or just because gravity is being less kind today.

What matters not is the gain, but how you deal with it afterwards. You have absolutely the right attitude, forget it, move forward. This isnt a short term process, you wont lose 10lb a week, and you will have fluctuations.

Stick to plan, and the scales will surprise you very soon :)

I like the fighting talk lol. And of course you are right. 1lb is nothing (although it always feels like SOMETHING). It is probably not even fat gain - almost definately water fluctuation. It will come off again next week - and so will your other lb of fat hopefully. I hope all goes well with your mum - and well done for sticking to your plan, take care xxx.

Hi Linda

I have read that during times of stress that your body can hold on to calories. It is just Mother Nature's way of looking out for you and may explain your small gain. You will be back on track in no time. Best wishes to your mum :)

I understand how disheartening a gain can be. Especially when it's unexpected - but life likes to through the odd curve ball.

My quick sums though say you've lost 26lbs in about 12 weeks? That's over 2lb a week - even with this weeks gain. And if you're half way to your target - i'm sure you're already feeling much better in yourself and finding life is just much better then it was.

Individual weeks can be disheartening, but always look at the accumlative total - either for the whole journey or just the last 4 or 8 weeks - i'm sure there's something there to smile about and help motivate you forward to getting a better result next week.
