Can anyone help with a Success express question?

Hi there,

My weight loss hasn't been what it should be for some time now, so my consultant suggested I go back to my old books and try success express. Great news, I lost 2lb this week so I am very happy.
I found it quite hard to get in my 2/3rds veggie portions and my heart was breaking when I roasted a whole chicken and could only eat a little of it!

My consultant was pleased with my loss and when we discussed it further she told me that you no longer had to use the higher syn values for synned foods. For example a pasta and sauce at 2 syns on green and a gazillion syns on red would only be 2 syns on success express. Now as I read it you had to take the higher syn values on any synned foods. She said it used to be that way but sw changed it. Is she right about that? The website no longer has anything about success express on it, the only info I have is from the booklet.

Can anyone help? I don't want to sabotage all my hard work.

See this is funny as I tried sucess express last week and my consultant advised it was still the higher syn value. Sounds like you did well last week, I couldn't get along with it and lost 1/2 lb - a loss is a loss and so I can't complain but I lose better when I stick to green and original!

Sometimes you need to try and see what works for you - good luck x

I would have thought that the best way would be to take the higher syn value...if you are trying to kickstart your weightloss it can only but help?

It bothers me slightly how all the plans have been shoved aside for EE...they all still have their place!!

When I do SE I follow the old rules and the old book.
So I have 2 A's and 2 B's, I have up to 15 syns, I have 2/3rds superfree but I use the old superfree rules so this includes eggs and cottage cheese for example. As for snacks on superfree, again I use the old rules so will snack on yoghurt and cottage cheese (which are not superfree on EE). I also take the higher syn value.

I'm not certain SW would have changed the rules for SE as it doesn't seem to exist any longer.

That's how I do it anyway!

Our C told us about this plan last night, and gave us all a little booklet, so I've got the up to date version!!

It's still 2/3 Superfree to 1/3 Free for your meals, but it seems to be the "new" definition of Superfree foods, i.e. fruit or veg only, not eggs or cottage cheese or anything like that.

Choose once or twice from the HEAs, and twice from the HEBs.

Snack on Superfree between meals (again, this is the "new" definition).

Have your usual 5-15 Syns, but count the HIGHER Syn value.

Obviously if anyone's been doing this under the old rules, and it works for them, then carry on!! Just thought you might all want the "new" plan :D

OOh thanks Alwyn. This does make it a bit harder though as I used to have a big cooked breakfast with eggs as my 2/3rds with toms and mushrooms!
Thing is with the new superfree rules it will make a better weight loss won't it?
Looks like SW are bringing SE back then if they have done a new booklet!

Yeah, it sucks, but I'm definitely giving it a go this week!! Think I'll do 2 or 3 days, then do EE the rest of the time.

I think I'm getting to the point where I need to start incorporating more exercise into my life anyway, my losses are SOOOO tiny!!!

My C gives out the new SE leaflet to anyone who is stuck in a rut with their losses. She uses it as a 'tool' just like the 'fast forward' plan.
So I don't think SW are bringing the plan back as such, as it never really went away but yes the new SE is slightly different because of the new superfree rules but otherwise everything is the same as it was before.
Personally, if I dabble with it again, I will use my old booklet as I achieved good losses with it then so no reason why I wouldn't again.

As Lentil said - our consultant also just has a small handful of SE booklets that are just handed out to people stuck in a rut, or people that ask for it - we have it for a week and take it back. I've only been going since Feb this year, so have only ever known the "new" rules with superfree - but thats what is in the booklet. I dont think that Success Express has ever gone away - its just used sparingly as it is actually quite restrictive and difficult to stick to (I found I was piling up every plate with butternut squash as the closest superfree alternative to potatoes - got sick to death of butternut squash by the end of it!!)

As for the original question - the leaflet definitely still says to take the higher syn value and I have no reason to doubt that - I'd be asking my consultant to double check her facts if she thinks that has changed.

Thanks guys, I'm going to check out the new booklet in class, but I think I will carry on with what is in my old book using eggs and fat free dairy as free food. It worked, I lost 2lb following it, so I don't see a reason to change anything. I definitely will have a chat with my consultant about the syn rules I didn't think that could be right.

Yes I queried EE that we take the lower syn value on synned foods - and like pasta n sauce 26 on red and only half on green but EE you take it as half ?? I can't see how that works and haven't mixed foods like this.

I've got to admit - being an old SW'er I've mixed up my days quite a bit - doing Mix to max as well as Success Express and EE and Red and Green. HOwever, when I stuck to EE the first few weeks my weight loss was good - the last couple of weeks it's a bit iff'ier if you know what I mean. And I'm finding that I'm hungry on Red and Green etc - however that COULD just be because I've been following the plans for 8 weeks now and you do start to get a bit fed up.

My cousin started SW last week and her C just recommends EE - everyone in her class was following it - when cousin said that she used to do green and thought that is what she would do this time - she was told 'give EE a go first and see how you go' - She has followed green this week because it's what she knows.

Try SE for a week with taking the lower syn value and see how it goes. A week won;t really hurt - GOOD LUCK

I might give SE a try, well I'll try and do red with 2/3 superfree at every meal.
I always thought it was weird that eggs/quorn etc were superfree rather than just free on both. Just like I'm a bit confuzzled how to treat stuff that is syn free but not free (like mullers)...I always want to have more than 1 a day, in theory I could have more than one a day yet I feel I shouldn't! Argh
