DAIRY FREE IDEAS PL

sparkelwings

in my dreams!!!!!!
Hi, I've just started slimming world (again lol!) but with a difference. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in march :wave_cry:and have just finished chemo and can now face eating normally, hence starting the diet.

My cancer is estrogen based so it is best to come off dairy products. Does anyone else have the same problem or have any ideas on how to replace the "a" cheese or milk with something else. :)

Any help would be most appreciated x

You can get dairy free milk, soy, rice, almound lots of diffrent ones. the best soya one i had was the fres So Good but the best milk by far that i have found is Kara coconut milk. Its the equivelant of semi skimmed so just count the right amoutn for an a of semi skimmed :)

There are loads of dairy free alternatives these days, so don't worry!

You can have rice milk, soy milk, oat milk, almond milk, hazelnut milk and hemp milk. Soy and rice milk are the cheapest and can be easily found in supermarkets. I generally use soya because it's thicker than rice milk, so makes for better hot chocolates or works better when I cook with it. If you get soya milk I strongly recommend you get the 'sweetened' one, it tastes far better. You can have 250ml of the sweetened as an A choice or 350ml unsweetened. Rice milk is yummy though and I like it on cereal or just to drink on its own. You can have 250ml as an A choice.

Although it would have to be synned, I've seen that Morrisons sells dairy free single cream by Alpro. Most supermarkets also sell alpro or provamel custard in the 'free from' sections, the alpro one tastes best! You can also get lots of dairy free chocolate in supermarkets now too, the dairy free white choc buttons are my favourite and 6.5 syns a pack. The best dairy free chocolate is found in health food shops though, but again, not sure of the syn value.

There are lots of dairy free cheeses as well. Supermarkets now sell pure cheese slices and spread, the slices are now an A + B choice officially, you can have 2 slices. It's not stated that you can have other dairy free cheeses as a healthy extra, but I do it and haven't suffered from it. Tofutti cream cheese can be found in health food shops and is pretty good, they also do a sour cream but you'd have to syn that. Cheezly is the best 'melting' cheese and is good on top of pasta and chilli. Sheese is probably most like real cheese to me, it's harder to find and usually only independent health food shops will sell it. Their blue flavour is great, as is the cheddar and chive one. They do cheese spread too but it's not as good.

Soy yogurts have to be synned but Provamel fruit flavoured ones are 2 syns each and very yummy. You can buy alpro plain and fruit yogurt in supermarkets, not sure of the syn value of those. I know Asda do their own fruit soya yogurts too and I loved those.

So, as you can see there are lots and lots of choices available to you! Being dairy free really isn't so hard anymore. Hope this helps, if you ever need help finding something you used to like but without the dairy, feel free to PM me. I know lots of products and where to get them :)
