How can I do this?

:wave_cry: Hi all,
I am just writing to ask you for some advice / support.
Today I start the new you TFR diet at 220 lbs:eek: I can hardly believe myself that a year and a half ago I weighed 10st7lbs. 5 stone in that time!!! You would think it couldn't be done, but here I am. After a mixture of ill health, and low mood because of it, I have comfort ate and hardly moved a muscle in that time. Finally things are beginning to look up, I am back to work and medication keeping my physical health well. However, my married life and my self-esteem are suffering so badly now because of my weight and the way it makes me feel. At primary school, I was bullied about my weight and since then all my self-esteem centres around my weight (silly I know but I can't help it). I have 70 lbs to lose which seems SO hard and such a large mountain to climb  Please can anyone help me by telling me how they manage to stay focused? Thanks xx

Hello late bloomer, I put a lot of weight on after having my baby, I am heavier now than when I was 6 months pregnant.

The only thing I can say helped me when I lost 4 stone in 4 months is to come on here daily. Look at the inspiration thread and before and after pictures and just concentrate on one day at a time. if for any reason you fall off the wagon, get back on immediately! The weight will fall off quickly....it never feels quick enough, especially when you have a clear memory of being thinner, but just focus on what is felt like to be 10 stone 7, what clothes you wore etc, let that be your focus and the reason you get up and have those shakes everyday. Before you know it your clothes will be getting looser and you'll start to see your features again. Keep coming on here, there are so many people going through this, you will not be alone on your journey =)

Hi latebloomer and welcome to the forum..

I am not going to lie, it is a hard diet initially, but it really does get easier. This forum is brilliant for support and advice so if you come here regularly, it really makes a difference.

You have come a long way in your life, and if you take this diet on a day by day basis at first, it will not seem such a huge battle. I have only been on it a week, and really struggled at first, but it is much easier now.

I want to lose a bit more than you, but have decided i am not going to miss out on Xmas, so am making plans to eat normally (but sensibly) over the Xmas period, and if necessary, go back on TFR in the New Year. I have found that since i made that decision in my head it seems more bearable.

Once you have your 1st weigh in, it will give you the boost to carry on.

Good luck on your journey-we are all in it together x x

I originally had 80lbs to loose but it doesn't take long before those numbers start to go down, you can do this and you will if you really are determined to change your life for the better. I know it's been said but this website really is a God send, so stick on here. Always have smaller goals as you go along to keep to focussed and the long term goal will come closer and closer to realisation. It is hard, but its worth it.

Thank you all sooo much!!! You are all so inspiring and doing so incredibly well..............I really hope to follow in your footsteps! xxx

Latebloomer, once you have the first three days under your belt, it's much easier to focus because your new best friend ketosis will help you stay on it (if you don't mind his breath). And nothing is more motivating than seeing those stones tumbling off at warp speed. Best of luck, you've come to the best place!

Some days drag, it's true... but I can't tell you how quickly the weeks will pass! I would like to stay on TFR for another 10 weeks which seems very daunting to me now, but then I think that I've already done 6 weeks and they have literally flown by! I look forward to another 2 weeks passing (which I'm sure there will do very quickly!) and to know I'm half way through!

Thanks guys for everything!!! I will officially start tomorrow.............I have spent today writing down all the reasons why I want to do this diet and all I am missing out on by being this weight (and so unhappy with myself). You really are an inspiration and all doing incredibly well....................will sign in tomorrow to let you know how I'm getting on xox

hi latebloomer well done for making a start the best advise i can give is to keep posting on here, drink lots of water and leaf teas help with the hunger, try and keep yourself busy and just focus on getting through the first few days then take it week by week youll soon see the seight dropping off which will help you stay inspired good luck

What a frank and honest post. Well done for taking the first step to the old you! Take that list of reasons you have just written and stick it up on the fridge. Every time you feel tempted to eat, just reread the reasons you are doing this.
Don't look too far ahead. Take it a day at a time and then a week at a time. Your first weigh in will give you such a buzz that it will encourage you to keep going. It helps to set some mini goals for yourself like little rewards for every 10lbs off or a treat as you drop a dress size.
Once you get into the swing of it, the weeks really do fly by. This forum is a great support so keep hopping on here when you feel down. lots of luckxx

Thanks Molly, it's good to get advice from someone who has lost such an enormous amount of weight and got to goal! You must be a totally different person to when you started out? Thanks so much for your advice and encouragement x

Ps what is GL?

take on board everything all the above have said as they're not wrong. Plus be warned you may turn into Food Sniffer like myself, truth is it is quite satisfying and does make me feel as though I'm tasting the food without it passing my lips :D

Thanks for the nice comments. For sure, I am a different person both physically and mentally. It really was the best thing I could have done for myself.
GL stands for glycaemic load. This is a food plan based on keeping your blood sugars level throughout the day. Apparently, it is the spikes in our blood sugars that then lead to a slump and us getting ravenous. GL is basically healthy eating based around lower carb choices. Have a look on the GI and GL forum on minimins.
I switched to it after TFR and have lost another 31lbs on it and feel fab. I rarely feel hungry or have cravings for anything.

Thanks again Molly. I've been doing some research online about GL and it seems to make good sense. It certainly goes a long way to explaining the food cravings and mood swings that I used to have....and as I've now gone three weeks without a chocolate bar or a biscuit I know it's not just down to willpower. I haven't craved them either.

I think that I might switch to a GL diet in the long term, it certainly sounds like a healthier way to live and you're proof that it obviously works.

Cheers darling x
