Secret gamer!

Miss Mango

Little Miss Wii Fit!
Probably won't be many people with my new found hobby but I'm a bit of a gamer, I never used to be but since I got my Wii last year I've become hooked!

Not only to Wii Fit but also to Sports Resort, Sports, Just Dance, anything that is a Wii workout etc. I've even got my list of upcoming games that I want to buy and am gonna buy them as soon as they are out!

I'm also a bit of a DS fiend, I love the Professor Layton series and can't wait for the next one coming out next month.

I feel like such a geek but its become such a hobby of mine!!! :giggle:

When I read the title I thought you meant gambling lol (sorry)

Yes another fan of the Wii here. My hubby got it for me last October as an early birthday present as I'm a big fan of mario games. Also my Mum had a Wii for Wii Fit and when I played it for the first time I was hooked and really wanted it, so along with the Wii that was bought too :) in a bundle..

My hubby loves going on Wii fit/Wii Fit Plus, especially the free cycling. He does 30mins about 4-5 times a week in the morning before work, and another 30mins later in the day after work, along side other balance games etc. He has already clocked up over 32 hrs in his piggy, and most of that was done in the last 4-6weeks..

I used to really like using Wii fit, and still go on it a couple times a week, but now I have found EA active personal trainer and the second one EA active More Workouts, I find the Wii Fit isn't intense enough for me. Hate having to put the leg strap on all the time before I work out (you know the device that the nunchuck goes in) as sometimes I think I haven't done it up tight enough and keep thinking it's going to fall off, but apart from that I'm semi hooked (not to keen on the 6week challenge but that's probably just me)

In case you din't know, there is supposed to be another EA active game type workout coming in around November time (or at least it is in the US) so maybe I can persuade my hubby to get that for me for a birthday present (fingers crossed) its supposed to come with extras like a heart monitor, and new exercises, so that should be fun to lookout for..

Its a good hobby to have, especially when trying to lose weight. I can't really afford the gym, so buying the Wii and games has been the way forward for us, and saved us so much money over the last 6months alone.

Ooh and theirs nothing wrong with being a geek :)

Haha, I honestly didn't think I would get an answer to this topic so thanks very much for replying!

Wow your hubby does well on the Fit, he's certainly racked up some hours. I have to say I get a bit bored with the cycling one but glad he enjoys it so much! I prefer the aerobic games on there and also the muscle ones, I add in my own weights etc to make things a bit more intense.

I too enjoy the EA Sports Active and the More Workouts although like you I find the leg strap a bit of a nuisance. I also didn't like the tension rope you got with the game, its actualy rubbish so I bought myself a proper one to do the exercises with so I get a better workout. I haven't done EA for ages now though, I must get back into it. I'm not too keen on the 6 week thing either, I prefer to make up my own routines or just do one of the premade ones, they do get you sweating.

The new EA coming out looks brilliant, its actually on my list!! :p Its quite pricey though as it costs £80 or at least thats what its down as on Game. I'll put the link in for you

I can't wait for Just Dance 2 coming out next month, the first one is brill and the songs on the new one are fab! :D

Heres the link for EA 2 if you want to have a look: EA Sports Active 2 - Wii - GAME.co.uk

PS. I'm only a gambler when I play Lotto, otherwise I'm not too hardcore on that!! Hahaha! :p

Your welcome on the replying front. Nice surprise to see there was a post from someone about the Wii fitness games on here :)

I've never tried Just Dance but have heard good things about it, might have too look into that.

Thanks for the link, :( think £80 is a little to much for us at the moment, hopefully it will come down in price after a while, or after Christmas (yeah right) or I could see about getting it as a joint birthday/Christmas present?

The main thing with EA Sports, is the cool down for me. I have to keep sitting up to see what they want me to do next, and by then the exercise has already started, and it says I've burnt of calories when I haven't done a single thing yet, other then watch the screen for instructions...

I don't like using the resistance / tension rope they give you, one bit, but in order to work all parts of me, I just limit exercises using the rope to 1-2 times a week, and the rest of the time I do all the other stuff, like for example, tennis, squash, baseball, boxing etc depending on what game I have in (i.e. the first one or the more workout one)

I have heard some people have actually sewn the bit of the strap where the nunchuck goes into, on a pair of shorts or trousers that they only use for there Wii exercises. Not tried it myself yet, but sounds a lot easier then doing the damn thing up each time...

And on the gambling side. I'm only a gambler when it comes to the lottery too. If I won I would definatly get a personal trainner (a real one) but I'd never get rid off, or stop using my Wii as I love using it to much for that..:D

Oh you should get Just Dance, its really good fun and its actually a fabulous workout. I love it, it really gets you up and moving, not to mention sweating. I lost about 10lbs doing that daily for 45 minutes for 4 weeks. I think I'll get it out again as haven't played on it for ages now.

I agree with you about EA2, it is really pricey and its certainly not first on my list of games I want. I suppose with the heart monitor etc it will always be quite expensive but I think I'll wait until there is an offer on it or a reduction maybe after Christmas.

Good idea about the nunchuck strap, I never thought of that and might try it!

Have you seen the step riser for the balance board? I can't wait to get that when its released, gonna add loads more to my workout as it raises the board by 4" :D

4" that's a lot, no not heard of the Balance Riser just going to google it now, thanks...

Its a shame that EA2 is so pricey as I told my OH about it yesterday, and his exact words were, 'sod that' (excuse my French)

He said if I'm enjoying the ones I have so much, I should just keep using them till the price comes down a little more. He kinda thinks if we got the new one, the old EA sports games might just end up on the shelf not being used, which would seem to him to be a waist of money. He has a point I suppose..

So long as it wasn't 45 minutes of dancing in one go I think I could easily do that (just depends on the activity) going to see if game or somewhere similar have any second hand copies I can buy, next weekend.

Failing that I got an offer from Blockbuster through the other day and I can rent 7 items for £4.99 making them about 80 odd pence each, and that includes games which I can rent for a week, so may rent if first (if they have it) to see if its actually for me...

I have to say I agree with your hubby - I bought the original Wii Fit and then 6 months later the Fit Plus came out - of course you have to buy that, so now the original Fit is never looked at, its just gathering dust!
I'm not in a rush for the EA2, I think its mega over priced. I bought the EA More Workouts for £19.99 a few months back and yesterday I saw it in the shops for only £4.99 - typical! So its worth holding out for a bit and getting on with the ones you already have :D

As regards to the Just Dance, you can choose how long you do it for, the dances are all broken down into the one song, so each dance is as long as the song - also for each song there is a short version which is probably about half the song. I just do 45 minutes as it really helps me lose weight but you could just do one 4 minute song if you wanted! Its really easy and good fun, you'd get some laughs out of it as well as a workout!

I like the price you can get your rentals at, I'd say rent the game first and see what you think, no point in wasting money on something you either hate or don't want to do - I have done that many a time on Wii games and regret it!
Let me know what you think when you get the Just Dance though

Thanks renting it tonight when I go to take another game back (if its in stock)

Really hope I do like it, though hoping there aren't to many dances where I have to raise my arms straight up in the air for a long time, as I have had trouble doing that for quite a few years, and still have not plucked up the courage to see someone about it.. :(

Regarding EA2 I'm hoping that they do the same as they did with the first game, and bring out an updated version say like 6months after, then the price of the first one might go down, but £4.99 for EA More Workout that's cheap. Think I paid £14-15 only because I had some points on my game card which came to about £5, I thought that was cheap at the time..

Will report back tomorrow after I have tried 'Just Dancing (they better have it in stock lol)

Yeah be sure to let me know how you get on with it, its one of my favourites, and there isn't any sort of dance on there that requires your arms in the air for a long time! :D
Hope you enjoy it!

:( They didn't have 'Just Dance' when I went so not tried it yet..

Still using the EA Sports games I have so that's something I suppose.

Thanks, suppose it means I'll be spending more time on the other workouts still, so they won't be slightly pushed to one side for a while yet :)

Just got the Biggest Loser game yesterday as it was only £10 in my local Tesco. I'm still not that good at my exercise and get tired a little to quickly for my liking, but my hubby says that will get better with time..

Only wish it wasn't three circuits (is that the right word) I mean I do the routine once, then again, then by the third time, I'm whacked..

Also my hubby isn't the best at keeping in time with the lady on screen when she is doing the side step or the jogging on spot, it frustrates me so I tell him and try to say left, right, left, right, to get him to go in time (on the slow jogging one he is going way to fast) and he gets really annoyed with me.

I know I should just leave him be, but why do it if your not gona at least try to do it right.

Hmm next time I will try really hard to keep my mouth shout, and its gona be really hard :( I didn't mean anything by it just thought by doing the exercises more correctly, he might be getting more out of it...

Hi i love the wii, i have just dance, ea active and all the mario games lol. I almost bought the biggest loser but decided against it lol. I also have a ps3 and xbox 360 - so i love all my console games. oops forgot about my psp too lol. Oh and i have tetris, pacman and a footie game on my iphone in case i get bored anywhere lol . I only enjoy hidden object games, fruit machinegames and space invaders on the pc :)

well I tried some of the Mario games and not to into Mario Galaxy or mario super smash bros brawl, but Super Mario Bros was ok (shame it was only a rented copy)

I would love to have a PS3 as would like to have an extra blu-ray player in the house, plus aside from Mario Kart on the Wii, there aren't any really good racing games on the Wii like you can get on the PS3 or Xbox, and I think that's what my hubby is after...

I have Pacman on the Wii its not the best with the Wii Mote but good enough to play..

And still need to get round to getting Just Dance, but as I said before, I have enough to keep me active at the mo, if I get to many workout games some are going to end up just sitting on the shelf collecting dust..

I have to say I've never fancied getting that Biggest Loser game, what is it like? I've seen previews and it didn't look like my kind of game - everyone goes on about it though so I think I'll have a look on YouTube to see what I think again.

Hahaha, you're exactly the same as me, I would get frustrated at someone not keeping in time with the woman on screen :D I'm a right perfectionist like that!!

Haha bit of a gaming addict we have here! :D
I wish I could afford a PS3 and Xbox, especially now that PSMove and Kinect have been brought out - I just can't afford it though! Booooo! :( Might try to win one! Haha!

I also want an iphone and an ipod but again I can't afford them at the mo. I love the Nintendo DS and I like the quiz/puzzle/strategy games on them, I can't wait for the next Professor Layton saga! :p

I'm not into Mario at all, I really don't know what the appeal is - maybe I'm just weird :p

I'd love to have a PS3 too, I love the look of the PSMove but I think I would wait until they bring more games out for it, its not too different to the Wii I know but the graphics look fabulous. I can't afford the PS though so will have to play on someone elses if anyone gets it :D I love my Wii though so all is not lost!

Yeah some games are not good on the Wii because of the remote, but you can get a retro gaming pad, one where you hold it in your hands like the PS controller, maybe you could get one of them for your games that require it?

I think the original Just Dance might go down in price hun when they bring out the Just Dance 2 in a few weeks so you might be able to pick up a bargain ;)

Only have a small problem with the classic controller (as I can see, never used one yet)

Because there connected by a lead to the Wii it means I would have to sit a lot closer then I do to play games that require that type of controler.

That is a big problem for me or could be because a couple months ago we purchased a game cube version of Mario Kart, as the Wii can also take Game Cube games :). Anyway I have some Classic Game Cube controlers, plugged them in and started playing. The two times I properly used the GC game i ended up with a half day migraine the next day..

I know that the games graphics and all that, might be a lot different, but I'm worried that the same thing might happen when playing the Wii games using a similar type classic controler.

I have only had two major migraines this year (thats more then a record for me) and I don't want any more :(

Ignore my rant , but as you can see i hate migraines. Great idea though, and if they did a wireless classic controler I would have got one yesterday :( (unless they do and I missed something)

Ahh I see hun, I understand about the migraines as I get them too and they're ghastly. I don't understand why Nintendo don't do a wireless classic controller, would be much easier. I like wireless stuff now and we're all pretty much used to it so they should get onto it and sort that out!

I've just pre-ordered Wii Party and Just Dance 2 so they will be arriving in a couple of weeks when they're released, can't wait :D I only pre-ordered as they were cheaper that way :gimi:
