Hormones and ketosis?!

I'm pretty 'up' on my biology, but I am not sure if hormones can have an effect on ketosis. I check my ketones a couple of times a week with ketostix and have always been very dark purple.

However, at the beginning of this week I noticed it was a little paler, but didn't think anything of it. It's my TOTM and despite being 100% TFR I have managed to put on some weight (I weigh myself in a morning, after toilet but before dressing!) so I am consistent with my weighing. This is the first time in my LT journey that the scales have gone up!! I'm feeling lethargic and generally un-ketosis-y so checked with ketostix and very very pale (1 up from 'traces' of ketones).

Can hormones somehow mobilise some hidden glycogen or something? Whatever it is, I'm mightily pissed off - I feel so crappy and hungry and am fighting the cravings, it'll be SO disappointing if I don't even lose anything once I've battled through!

I think ketosis affects hormones oestrogen is
stored in fat cells so periods can be very heavy so
maybe you are retaining water then will hve big loss when it's
over prob better to keep water to 2-2.5 liters
This is what my pharmacist told me x

Thats really interesting!!!

Before I started LT I never had a period, due to the contraception Im on, but just into my second week I had very prolonged episode and the chemist put my 'low' weight loss down to this and told me it was due to the affects of going into ketosis that had caused me to have a period :?

so glad yoou said this, im on the implant and have been a long time and never have periods but funnily enough i do this diet, and about every 2-3 weeks as well:cry:

Interesting isn't it! I always put on about 4lbs before my period but lose it within 2 or 3 days, you will still lose but maybe more next week.

My ketosis has gone from high to low as well so must be hormones (or my age!). I'm coming back as a man!!! x

I do agree that hormones are probably the biggest contibuting factor here, but...

I know you struggle to drink enough water Bren and think it may be worth considering the possibility that your body may be retaining water too? I know from experience that during my TOTM I retain water and I'm also aware that if you're in the slightest bit dehydrated you will also retain water - is it not possible that you have a combination effect going on here? Maybe make a concerted effort to drink more before weigh in on Sat and see if that helps?

And, on a cheerier note, IF you've not lost this week, you'll be sure to have a HUGE loss the folling week. Chin up and make that boyfriend of yours wait on you for a bit :D

where do you get Ketostix from? xx

I got mine from the same chemist that I get my LT from - just ask the pharmacist. x

Thanks Devon, are they free or do you have to pay for them?? xx
