Christening/Baptism questions

big bear

A bear on a mission!
I would like my son and new baby to be christened in the CofE. I go to church and have been christened but my H hasn't. Here are my questions that I hope someone can help with.

1) Does H need to get christened too?

2) What's involved in the preparation classes & how long do they last?

3) It says if it's a boy needs 2 god fathers & if a girl needs 2 god mothers is this necessary?

4) Does the god parents need to be the same religion i.e. CofE as one that we've chosen is RC?

5) There is 1 Sunday each month for baptisms does this mean there could be others christened the same day so that it's not just our children's special day?

Hope that someone can help, if not I'll have to give the vicar a call but would rather some other input first.

Thanks

Hi,
1) no dh doesnt need to be "done"
2)when mine were done there were no classes, just turn up on the day
3)It is usual to have 1 God-parent of the opposite sex, and 2 of the same, so 3 in total. But I had one of each for both of mine.
4)No, the GP's don't need to be same religion, or any religion!
5)Yes, there may be more than 1 christened on the same day.

Hope this helps!

In our church it is usual for there to be a one off, about an hour baptism prep about why you want it for your child and what it actually means. Yes there may be other children christened at the same time if you pick a popular church but if you intend on going to that church on a regular basis they might do it in the sunday morning service for you. Your GPs need to be baptised but apart from that no problems with CoE or RC.

I really enjoyed getting my little one christened and have two god sons of my own. All three were done in the sunday morning service but we are a church going family (I dont mean to be funny but we do go most sundays) and it was a real special experince. My little one loves going to church and all the congregation know her and she has many fans amongst the old ladies who keep giving her sweeties!!

We got our daughter christened last weekend and no dh doesnt need to be done we had 4 godparents 3 women and 1 man he said it didnt matter about sex and how many you have we didnt have prep classes and it didnt matter what religion the god parents are.
We ended up having 3 other christenings at the same time as our daughters but i quite liked it as everyone mingled in the church even though no body knew each other.
Hope you have a lovely day we really enjoyed our daughters last weekend :)

Like Tatws says, though, your chosen godparents must be christened themselves. Have a lovely day x

Sorry to disagree, but none of my children's godparents were christened/baptised themselves, maybe it depends on the Vicar!
My daughter went on to be confirmed at Norwich Cathedral when she was 13 and that was a beautiful "do" as there were over 100 being done and they looked lovely in their white dresses and suits!

Sorry if I gave out duff information but we were told we needed baptised GPs. Depends on the denomination I suppose. Hope it is a beautiful and blessed event.

Thanks so much for all ur replies I really appreciate it. I'll speak to the vicar to confirm the details xx

Ditto for me. My CofE vicar insisted that all GP's had to be christened so I assumed it was the same for all. Sorry!
