Do birth control pills cause weight gain?

I don't understand how it CAN cause weight gain, because it's not as if it slows down your metabolism, or contains any calories. I know it might increase your appetite, but if you resist hunger and cravings and continue to exercise a lot and count every single calorie that you consume (which is something I definitely do) then I don't see the problem?

I've been prescribed Yasmin birth control pills because I haven't had a period in about 7 months, but I think I'm going to refuse to take them if they make you gain weight. I know this sounds really bad, but I'd rather become infertile or whatever than gain a ton of weight.

Is it really true that contraceptive pills make you pile on the pounds? I'm actually really scared. I've worked so hard to get my weight down! I'm sure most of you can understand.

hey there , its not the fact they increase the apetite they increase certain hormones in your bidy that can be responsible for weight gain...not everyone gains weight but some do and this is why i decided not to take them myself x

They can cause weight gain but not always. I took Microgynon for 3 years and had no weight gain with it; I then had to change my pill as Microgynon started affecting my skin and I have been taking Cileste for about 3 years and have had no weight gain on that either.

I'd never risk infertility over weight gain though, I would much rather be a bit bigger and be able to carry a child and become a mother but that's just personal choice as I have always known I really want to be a mum one day.

Good luck with whatever you decide though and if you choose not to take the pill then maybe there is another form of birth control that will work for you.

I've just taken my 5th Yasmin pill today - so far so good! I've looked into Yasmin reviews, and the positive reviews outweigh the bad. :)

I might have misread your post, apologies if I have. Fertility experts state the contraceptive pill does not affect fertility (aside from what the pharmaceutical companies produce it for lol).
The myth still continues to do the rounds though
