Hi

I have tried all the other slimming clubs and am so desperate to lose the weight that has been pilling on for 3 years. My bmi is 29.8.

I am hoping to do SS or SS+ but I am on citalopram for depression. It is not severe but it is likely I will need to be on medication forever.

Is this likely to stop me being accepted?

The decision is ultimately down to your Doctor. It's not like you have a condition where you have to eat "normal" meals or it will affect you or the medication, so hopefully you will be allowed to. I would put across that you feel that it will help you with the depression, which will hopefully convince her/him to agree for you do it.

If your Doctor doesn't sign the form, then you can still do step 4 at 1200 calories per day. It will take a bit longer to lose the weight, but it still works. My parents lost 2-3 stone each doing that.

Thanks for getting back to me. I hope they sign it as really feel like I need to be away from food for a while , if that makes sense.

I have tried all the lower cal diest SW, WW etc but want to try something new.

Well hopefully you have an understanding Doctor that doesn't have anything against VLCD's. Also one that will listen to how much you want to do SS or SS+ and realise it's for the best for you. I hear some of them take some convincing, so just be prepared. Knowing as much about the diet as possible will also show you have done your homework and are serious about doing it. :)

You can also tell your Doctor that you have many people online for help and support. ;)

i think you will be ok, ive been on that in the past and still have it in my notes i get a little depressed at times... i had no problems
good luck, give it a go.. CDC will let you start before you get it signed anyway! xx

I have pmd you with correct info ;) Hope that helps :)

I don't think you need to worry, I take citalopram and my doctor signed my form with no problem.

I also can't believe that some doctors have charged people for signing thier forms. I know that they are entitled to but the NHS moan that 'OBSESE' people cost the NHS so much in money, but then charge us went we decide to do something about it!

Anyway sorry for moaning! lol but i'm sure you will be fine xxxx

I agree devilishandsweet. My parents wanted to do SS and they both booked appointments to get the forms signed. My Dad paid £10 to get his signed, but my Mum wasn't allowed to do it. So they both did the 1200 step, which was a waste of £10.

Thanks everyone for your help and support. I have contacted a CDC and am waiting for her to get back to me with a date for meeting up.

Will keep you up to date x

i hate it when i hear of people paying. it's daft. we want to do something positive and we are not going to be cost the NHS in the future as much as we would if stayed or got even fatter. you could get massive then ask for a gastric band and that would cost them thousands :D daft isn't it.

honestly about depression. i dont think the tablets work. i was on 2 different lots for PND as the first lot didn't work. i was on prozac then the same one as you are on, citalopram. i found them useless and found diet and exercise much better at getting the 'weight off from my depression'. as soon as i started exercising then loosing weight my mood lifted and i stopped the tablets and started CD and the weight fell off me.

I went to the doctor today with my form and I have to go back tomorrow to collect the form and pay 20 pounds, which I think is alot. I just hope she will have signed it.
Good luck to Sonya (and all the other new starters and everyone else!)

I know!! I'm not too happy about it, but I really want to do this so I will pay it (through gritted teeth though!!)

few years back i had to get a form signed and when i went to collect it i was told there was a charge. told them i didnt have it on me and would pay later, needless to say i never paid the charge, moved gp's after a while too

I'm on Citalopram and had no problem getting my formed signed. Didn't have to pay either, its a cheek to charge you!
Can't remember who said they didn't work, its all subjective. Mine have changed my life completely.
