Does egg give any one else a tummy ache

Piglet

Is so doing it this time
:cry:My tummy hurts....:cry:I haven't eaten eggs for ages because I think they make me constipated  but I had an omelet earlier and now have a terrible tummy ache. Does anyone else have this problem.... or is it just me? x

Eggs affect me terribly! Give me unbearable stomach gripe type pain! They don't constipate me but they do a lot of people. I have about two eggs a week on SW! Try some peppermint oil - sprinly three little drops in acup of warm water, add a little sweetner and sip slowly three times a day. It will also help with the constipaton.

Thank you so much..... its exactly like you described   its so bad I'm actually really crying!! I think I might die

And where will I get peppermint oil from I've never heard of it....

or drink mint tea, same effect :)

Hope you feel better soon Piglet.

Awwwwwwwwww well here's a few things that may help! Peppermint oil is available as a tablet (Colpermin) from Boots/Superdrug etc off the shelf BUT they're expensive so get them on prescription like I do! Or buy Holland and Barret's ENTERIC COATED PEPPERMINT OIL CAPSULES, but they MUST be the enteric coated (means they dissolve and release the oil in the stomach not the intestines). The other alternative is buying the actual oil, again it is available from Holland and Barrettm 10mls is about £4 but you need only four small drops in a cup of warm water (any more and you'll have the runs!) three or for times a day. Both need to be taken half an hour before food (important).

Another little thing to try is asking your GP for a blood test for a bacteria called Helicobacter Pyloris - this is a bacteria that sits in the gut and causes stomach griping in adults. It is incredibly common and easily sorted. It is little known but its effects can be awful. (Gripy stomach, bloating, wind etc).

Does the gripy pain sit in the stomach (ribcage) or further down sort of across the abdomen? If in the stomach it is very likey HP bacteria!

Thank you both. Thistimeisdifferent thank you so much for taking the time to explain all that. I took some Gaviscon cos that's all I had in the house but to be honest I was worried about the syns it may contain. I'm definitely going to get some peppermint oil. Is it best to have the tablets or get the oil.
And this happens to be quite a lot so I'm making am appointment with the doc and asking for that test you mentioned. I get the pain under my ribcage and this time I really thought I was gonna die   it was so so bad. I've been lying down on my bed trying to sleep but next door are having one hell of a party!! I've still got the pain but its no where near as bad as it was.

Maybe it had nothing to do with the eggs. But the gripy stomach, bloating and wind describes me perfectly  I'm beginning to think the healthy eating is bad for me! x

Awwww, I hope you feel better today Piglet :grouphugg: I've had problems with eggs ever since I had my MMR jab at 9 years old. Instead of giving me constipation it has the opposite effect on me (TMI, sorry!) It could be that you're intolerant to eggs, in which case try cutting them out completely for a while, then reintroduce them gradually and see what effects they have.

I found this little bit of info on Wikipedia:

Egg white intolerance

Egg whites, which are potent histamine liberators, also provoke a non-allergic response in some people. In this situation, proteins in egg white directly trigger the release of histamine from mast cells on contact.[15][16] Because this mechanism is classified as a pharmacological reaction, or "pseudoallergy",[15] the condition is considered a food intolerance instead of a true IgE-based allergic reaction.
The response is usually localized, typically in the gastrointestinal tract.[15] Symptoms may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, or any symptoms of histamine release. It can result in an anaphylactoid reaction, which is clinically indistinguishable from true anaphylaxis, if sufficiently strong.[16]
Some people with this condition tolerate small quantities of egg whites.[17] They are more often able to tolerate well-cooked eggs, such as found in cake or dried egg-based pasta, than loosely cooked eggs, such as fried eggs or meringues, or uncooked eggs.

It sounds like you might also have an intolerance hun, so maybe go to the doctor to ask for skin-prick allergy tests?

Thanks Dudette, I had never even thought of that! I am feeling much better (I didn't die in the end ) but its funny cos I still have the pain every now and again, not constantly. I'm terrible at going to the docs, I hate it, but I think I will and I'll ask for that test that thistimeisdifferent mentioned.

Thanks guys :) xx

Piglet, if you are suffering from abdominal pains however intermittent, you SHOULD visit your GP and ask their advice.

I think it can be a little dangerous to 'diagnose online' and your symptoms may have a different cause altogether than the one you think. You might have indigestion or an intolerance but it is impossible to tell in cyberspace! Better to have it checked out and put your mind at rest.

Hope you get some answers and feel better soon!
xx

Your symptoms sound just like I would expect with the Helicobacter bacteria. I was in agony last night, so I sympathise with you totally. Now the thing is if you want the helicobacter bllod test you have to not touch antacids (pepto bismil, Rennie etc) or antibiotics for fourteen days before as it can give a false negative result - I am on day 8 without, it is terrible as I can't take anything for it until I have had the blood test in a week but I do find drinking a little milk can help ease things and that's fine. Another great tip if you're not keen on doctors is you can do the test at home VERY easily and very cheaply :) You can buy a home test kit on eBay for around £8 including delivery and it is precisely the same test they do at the GP's.

HELICOBACTER PYLORI/STOMACH ULCER TEST - CE APPROVED on eBay (end time 20-Aug-10 17:21:22 BST)

In the mean time I would invest in some peppermint oil from H+B. Take it three or four times a day half an hour before food but be careful, you really do only need three or four drops (or follow instructions on box). It can take a while to kick in so take it regardless for every 24hrs that you're feeling unwell.

Helicobacter is a bacteria which causes stomach ulcers, the symptoms for this are intermittent, they come and go, they can include gripey stomach pain, (feels like you've not eaten for days sort of pain) and a pain beneath the rib cage usually on the left hand side.

Eggs do exactly the same to me. Constipated and bloated, which is a shame because I do enjoy eating them . Will try peppermint tea for the next few days, then pop int to H&B for oil. Thanks for the info.

I am going to completely cut them out for a week and see how I feel though I am almost certain I have the helicobacter bacteria, we shall see!! It is awful :-(

Oh no Thistimeisdifferent, Maccasmum what are we like. I hope your feeling a bit better now!

I was in so much pain early this morn and I hadn't eaten anything so decided it cant be indigestion. So I took your advise Cupcake and got an appointment at the docs (which is a miracle in it self) I just got back..... she said it could be gall stones or perhaps an ulcer so is sending me for a scan. I told her about the Helicobacter bacteria and she said she wanted to rule out the other stuff first.

Am so fed up of always having pain regardless of whether I have eaten or not. Thank you all for your advise, am really glad I went to the docs now :) xx

It's funny you should mention gall stones, when I read about your pain it reminded me of when I had to have my gall bladder removed. Definitely feels like you're going to die, far far worse than labour! I'm glad your GP listened first time, I know it can take some people a few trips to be taken seriously. If it is gall stones then SW is a good diet because it's low in fat, you don't want to eat a burger believe me.

Hope the scan sorts it out. x

Piglet - Gallstones was the first thing that came to mind when you posted of your pain but I didn't want to say anything and 'diagnose' you as I strongly feel the GP is the best person to help you. I am SO relieved you went and pleased your GP was so helpful. Brilliant you will have a scan, and it WILL be sorted for you.

If it is gallstones, it is easily treatable. I had gallstones when I first lost weight with SW 2 years ago and my gallbladder was removed as a result - and like LovelyLaura says the pain of an attack is like nothing on earth. More likely to happen in the four F's - Female, around Forty years of age, Fair and Fat - that was me! It is common to get attacks of them once you start to lose weight as your fat is being metabolised. Do though go back to your GP for some effective painkillers if you keep having awful attacks of pain, and if its out of hours go to A&E where they can sort the pain out for you if it is truly unbearable.

If its not gallstones, then the scan will hopefully point them in the right direction. Take care of you, and let us know how it goes.

xx :)
