Weight loss is just toooooo slow :(

Let me just give you a bit of background. I'm 5'4" and currently about 13 stone. I have NEVER been what you call slim, even as a child, but have been slimmer than this, and once got down to about 10 stone with SW years ago.

I have been doing SW pretty much full on for the last 10 years and am WI lady at my group. I tend to holiday quite a bit, and even though I don't go mad, I put back on (and more) what has taken me months to loose.

I have never believed I should be 'large' and have even been to the doctors/hospital about it. After a lot of resistance I was put on slimming tablets a few weeks back but they did nothing. Nutritionist monitored me for a couple of months and concluded (although nothing scientific) that I must have a 'really slow to non-existent' metabolism.

Was put on Thyroxin for a few months (as a test by doctor) and weight decrease did improve to about 1lb-2lb week, but no longer taking.

So, what the hell can I do to increase my weight loss. I think I eat incredibly well, and the only think I can see wrong i that I don't have more syns, but if I increase I just don't loose or STS.

I know that exercise would help, but finding the time is a nightmare.

Tried the fat busting soup and I gained

If you want to see my diaries I have them here.

'I've been doing this forever' diary

At the moment I am currently loosing 0.5lb a week on average. I know its a loss but when a 1 week holiday can put on a stone its just not good enough!!!!!!!

Please help :(

Hi Carolyn,

im sorry to read that you arent happy with your losses. You are still loosing though Hun. Still, it is disappointing I know as Im going through the same thing on and off.
If you are going to a class, what has your Consultant suggested?? Has she mentioned Fast Forward to you?? If not, mention it to her. Its a little more "straight-jacket" then your conventional SW, but will kick start the weight loss again.

I didnt want to read and not post, so I hope things get sorted for you soon.

xx

Thanks Mrs V. I did do Fast Forward years ago and I did have a good loss the initial week, but it was a nightmare for about a month after. I either STS or gained, so after a month I had gained my initial loss, and I think a could of pounds more. After that I've not dared to do it again.

My consultant has known me for years, and although she sympathizes she just puts it down to me being a 'slow' looser. She knows I know the plan, but really can't offer any help.

Hi Carolynn,
Maybe your not loosing as much as you would want to, as your not that overweight at all.....
I have been 13 stone (I'm 5'2) and it looked good on me i was happy with that weight......
The larger someone is, tend to shift that little bit more as they have more weight to loose.....
Gosh I pray for the day I reach 13 stone..... keep ya chin up hun... persevere :)

Unfortunately I'm a size 16 (sometimes even an 18) so I desperately do need to loose weight. I hate looking at pics of me because I do look really overweight.

I think 9 1/2 stone is my ideal weight, so its not as if I haven't got much to loose.

I totally understand where your coming from, i have been really good for ages and the last few weeks have either STS or gained!!! I have a tredmill at home which up until now has been a very expensive clothes hanger so im trying as much as i can to do that but i work 2 jobs and normally go straight from 1 to the other then dont finish until midnight so trying to squeeze in a workout is hell for me, try simple things like taking the stairs or walking instead of the car if you drive even if your on the bus get off a stop earlier than you have to, it all helps, i know its really hard but stick with it, im a similar weight to you and only 5ft1!! Good Luck!! x

Thanks for all your positive comments. I guess the real reason I keep doing it and go to class is mainly as I enjoy the social aspect of it, and also if I didn't then god knows what size I would be.

I have to keep telling myself that loosing 0.5lb average a week is still better than gaining every week - but it does get to me every so often, esp when I know how hard I try to keep on track and what I 'deprive' myself of. And yes I do feel deprived - no takeaways for nearly 6 months, limited alcohol as I'm always the designated driver etc etc!!!!!

Its got to the stage where no treat, however small is worth the guilt I feel :-(

I guess it doesn't help being the WI lady and seeing how well everyone else is doing, esp when they confess what they've been eating all week.

Hey carolynn, I'm the same .. been at SW this time around since the end of May and only lost 10lb. I say only, I suppose its better than nothing, but would like to lose at least 2lb per week for my efforts. I am also 5'2 and 13 stone-ish :) I lost over 2 stones on my previous SW challenge a few years ago so I know it can be done. I just hope, like yourself, that my target comes sooner rather than later.

Keep up the good work tho, because it will eventually come off, even if it is 0.5 to 1lb per week

Why were you taken off the thyroxine then?

Its sounds as though you needed it?

When my thuroid levels were tested they were fine, but my doctor said that the 'average' levels in the UK were a lot different than most other countries levels, and what was classed as normal in the UK would be seen as under in the US.

Because of this, and also being at a loss regarding me loosing weight, she tried me on them for about 2 months.

Even though I was doing OK, she really wanted me to stop taking the contraceptive pill to continue. Not because it was causing problems taking it with the thyroxine, but just to see if that affected my weight loss.

This would have been fine, but I have been on the pill for many years now, and without it I have the most chronic monthly pains and bleeding. With it I have virtually nothing. Since she couldn't really offer me any other form of contraceptive that would suit me (sterilization was also discussed ) then it was sort of left there............

What about the mirena coil? Marvellous thing it is :)

That surely would allow you back on thyroxine...

That wasn't given to me as an option - just sorting it out myself via trip to chemist, the injection (which I had heard too much about negatively to want to use it as an option) or being sterilized. I'm nearly 40 BTW with no kids, and don't want any - Oh the best option offered was other half to have the snip, but he's a definite no no on that!!!!!

TBF, I don't really think that thyroxine was a long term option either - she didn't even test my levels when I was on it.

Happy to loose weight the good old fashioned way, but just wish it wasn't that bl**dy hard!!!!!!!!

Id defo go back to the docs, if you are 100% trying to lose weight by sticking to a plan and its not coming off then there is something not right with your body chemistry.

Sterilisation btw, wouldnt affect your periods, they would just go back to being heavy. The mirena coil is an absolute godsend for some people, it can actually stop your periods. One of our consultants in work call it 'the womans best friend' :D

I spent a good 2 years going back and forth to the hospital, doctors, nutritionist etc and didn't really get anywhere.

The only thing that was really said was I must have a really slow metabolism that they couldn't get to speed up (apart from taking thyroxin) and I just had to eat a loss less than most people to STS or loose weight - again nothing was scientific and I think they all sort of game up on me :(
