The Love of a Grandchild

Gemstone

Here for the Journey
The Love of a Grandchild

The love of a grandchild so precious and pure
It isn’t like anything you’ve known before
It’s fragile and tentative, dependant on others
Relationships hinge on their fathers and mothers

The games in the garden the songs on your knee
With actions and laughter their pleasure you see
The quieter times when you talk or you cuddle
And sorting the toys that have got in a muddle

The small hand that fits in your hand as you walk
The questions they ask and the way that they talk
The loss of a toy that had caused them to weep
The head on your chest as you rock them to sleep

Nothing compares to the love of a child
That is with you on trust and is yours for a while
But it’s fragile and tentative, dependant on others
Relationships hinge on their fathers and mothers
