I'm having to stay at my sisters at the moment and while she is being very helpful foodwise, her and her husband have drinks most nights.

I have switched to vodka and slim line tonic (although I miss my wine :() but I am drinking more than usual, do you think it is possible to carry on with the drinking and still lose weight or is it going to be overally detrimental to the losing each week?

As long as you are sticking to your syn allowance there is no need to worry Hun.
Just make sure that you are drinking plenty of water during the day time too.

As above- OR, you could simply say "No thanks! I don't fancy a drink tonight", or "I will just have a tonic water please!"

They choose to drink every night. You are choosing to drink with them. You can also choose not to. You are responsible for your own choices. If you choose to drink then you will need to stick to your syns, but equally, you could choose not to drink, on some or all of the times you are offered one. Also remember if you are synning the drinks you need to measure what you have.

Im not saying i cant control my drinking as I can but I am drinking more than usual so I am wondering if it is very detrimental to the diet as ive not been on it long!

Syns are syns irrespective of what you use them for. So 10 syns spent on a couple of slices of proper bread or 10 syns spent on vodka makes no difference as long you remain within your daily/weekly allowance.

I have found that my problem with drink isn't so much the syns in the alcohol, but my lack of resolve once I have had a few!

It is so much easier to reach for the snacks and so much harder to remain saintly when everyone else is off getting kebabs/pizza on the way home- I also suffer the next day when I crave greasy food

I do occasionally drink now but have found the following 3 tips help:

Insist on driving! This way even if you wanted to, you couldn't drink
Alternate alcoholic drinks with soft drinks
Make a really nice non-alcoholic syn free cocktail just for you, then you won't feel deprived (search for 'syn free pimms' for a nice recipe)

I wasnt suggesting that, but unless you are carefully measuring your drinks and keeping within your syn allowances, you WILL affect your weight loss, yes.

There is a woman at our group that uses one of those kids medicine syringes to measure out her vodka with to make sure she gets it right. Works for her!

I always spend most of my syns on alcohol. Like tonight, I'll probably use 50syns easily going out, but then I'll be very careful for the rest of the week. Many weeks I've still lost after going over my syns on alcohol, but obviously this is not to be advised! xxx

I think I need to do this, save my syns that is as I'm not going to lie I like a drink but its finding a balance, I've not been to weigh in for 2 weeks and not stuck 100% to plan because of loads going on family wise but Thursday after weigh in I am back on it!! xxx
