Im sure you have all experienced this, but needed a rant!!!

Am sick sick sick of people (people being my dad ) asking 'should you be eating that' and other similar quips. I am fed up with constantly trying to explain how sw works to him and he doesnt listen all i get is sarky comments like 'hmmm yeah that must be a good diet being able to have a cooked breakfast every morning'. grrrrr. When i offer the book to him to read through he just says he doesnt want to!!

He doeant want to know about it so i wish he would just stfu!!!!

I kinda ruins your meal when u have someone telling you you shouldnt be eating it!!!

I obviously dont live with him but mum shows a big interest and she often asks me what i have had and he is normally with her. I dont see why i should stop talking about it, as i am enjoying it and doing well!!! rrrrrraaaaahhhhh!! lol

Anyone want to join in my rant???

Argh yes! My mum is so guilty of this and as I'm staying with her for a few weeks it's really been getting on my nerves.

All I constantly hear is:

"That's a hefty portion there!"
"Should you really be eating that?"
"Pasta might be free but you shouldn't eat much of it. It's the carbs that make you fat"
"Portion control!"

and my favourite..."It might say you can have syns, but you probably shouldn't"

Makes me want to bash my head against a brick wall.

This kind of thing makes me really cross!!!! At work a couple of weeks ago I was tucking into SW quiche and syn-free pasta salad when one of my colleagues said to me "Is your lunch big enough??? Are you feeding the 5,000 or something????" I was gonna point out that I've lost almost 2 stone eating like that, but when I looked at his ginormous belly I was so gobsmacked I couldn't say a word!!!

Why do people think they have the right to say things like this? We know what we're doing and we're doing it quite well actually, so leave us alone!!!!

Rant over xxxxxxxx

oh yes!!

...should you be eating that.
...thought you were on a diet.
...i can see why you got fat!
...you'll put that weight back on mind!

but now im just over half way there i swear i will also scream if the following dont stop.

...oh one night off wont hurt.
...a little bit wont hurt.
...oh you dont need to do it 100% now.
...why are you still doing it.

Ugh, this too. My dad got drunk at his birthday meal and called me boring because I wouldn't drink

All of these comments are just so unsupportive, and people wonder why I don't tell them about my progress

I get a lot of "big" comments from my family. Yesterday I went to visit them and three times my stepdad said to my little daughter "why don't you try it, you want to grow big like your mum, except maybe not quite as big" Arrggghhh!

And I also got two "help yourself, you usually do..." in front of company.

I haven't told anyone I'm on this plan. Nobody'd notice, what with having cooked breakfasts (they're not observant enough to notice that I'm having quorn sausages and not using oil :) ) and stuffing myself at the bbq! Mind you, my aunt turned up, I haven't seen her in years, and she's lost 6 stone with slimming world!!! The minute she left my mum was going "oh, thats such a faddy diet, all these red and green days, she'll never maintain it"...and she hadn't even noticed that I'd been doing it whilst staying!!!

I've had that with several people.

My Father in Law has been a culprit on several occasions. I have had "Shurlee yu caan't eet thaat.?" (he's from Bristol, sorry I couldn't resist taking the mickey!)

I have now lost 2.5st and he now pipes down a bit!

As you say we do know how the plan works, better than they do!

Having been on SW since September 2009, I LOVE THE SCEPTICS!!!

Should you be eating that? - Yes, as long as I have some chocolate later. I wouldn't want to go too far off plan!!! (Remember, syns are as much a part of this plan as HEX's and free food)

Hmmm yeah, that must be a good diet being able to have a cooked breakfast every morning.. - Now you get a choice of two answers - 1. Yes it is a good diet!!! Bet you thought that I'd be sipping a milkshake or eating a grapefruit!!! (By the way, there is nothing wrong with a grapefruit!!) 2. No, it's not a good diet, but it a fantastic healthy eating plan!!!

That's a hefty portion there! - Do you think so?? I thought it was missing something... like chocolate!!!! To be honest, I don't think that I could stick to something where I was hungry....

Pasta might be free but you shouldn't eat much of it. It's the carbs that make you fat - No, it's the fat that makes you fat... It's what you put on the pasta that makes you fat... Tell that to the vegetarians...

Portion control! - I am. I just like bigger portions than you!!!!

It might say you can have syns, but you probably shouldn't - If it says it, I probably should. I LOVE CHOCOLATE!!!!!

Is your lunch big enough??? Are you feeding the 5,000 or something? - That's what I was thinking.... no, it isn't actually.. there's still space for CHOCOLATE!!! As for feeding the 5,000, no, I'm just taste testing for them!!!!

thought you were on a diet - I am!! Great isn't it!!!? Do you want any details?!?!

I can see why you got fat - No you can't. This isn't a bargain bucket, with extra hot wings.

You'll put that weight back on mind - Only if I go off plan or get pregnant.

oh one night off wont hurt. - No, but the next week will be harder.
...a little bit wont hurt. - No, but the rest of the cake will.
...oh you don't need to do it 100% now - Only if I want to gain weight.
...why are you still doing it - Because all those people who said I'd put it back on? I want to prove them wrong.

Dad got drunk at his birthday meal and called me boring because I wouldn't drink - Tell him you are worried that you might be drinking too much, and that alcoholism might run in the family!!!! (only joking)

But my favourite way to shut people up??? ANY comment about my choice of food/portion size is followed by... I've eaten this way since September. Four. Stone. Loss.

That usually shuts them up!!!!

Why is it the people with the smallest minds have the biggest mouths???

Brilliant! Just brilliant xx

I think it's understandable to be honest. After all they don't know anything about SW and are living under the same misconceptions about slimming that we all were before joining SW. Namely that dieting means deprivation, cutting back on the amount you eat and living off rabbit food. And how many threads do we see from newbies saying pretty much the same? So instead of getting annoyed I say go spread the SW word - hallelujah!

LOL yeah I hear you!

Everyone I speak to about it, thinks I live on Rice, Pasta and Chicken. Well I do eat a lot of those, but I do eat other stuff as well <grin>

When I forst started SW, my Mum was all 'are you sure you can eat that.?' and 'don't you think that is a bit too much.?' but she has gotten to grips on how SW works, and she has started the plan herself, mainly as a support for me as I need a crutch sometimes!

She has lost 4lbs in the first week of doing it, and she weighs in tomorrow. She is over the moon and is so happy she started it.

You can convert people LOL

You say you are "fed up with constantly trying to explain" - then stop.

If you have explained it to someone more than twice, then they are obviously not listening anyway, so don't waste any more time.

Someone on this forum had a tag on their posts which said "I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you" - which I thought was brilliant (can't remember who it was, sorry).

And Luverick, who is threatening to scream? Oh go on, scream! Loudly. I dare you!!

I'm really past attempting to make people understand Slimming World - Hell, even I don't even understand it half of the time! All I know is that whatever I'm doing is working, and all these other people that seem to think I'm doing it all wrong can attempt it themselves and we'll see how well they do! :D

My main problem is people trying to convince me to not stick to the diet! If I had £1 for everytime someone has just said 'Oh, don't worry about your diet for tonight, just eat some of this pizza (or similar food item)' - all of my money worries would be over.

xxxx

When on nightshift someone laughed at me at work when asking what I'd had for breakfast and I said Omelette, with some bacon and chicken thrown in - he didn't believe I could lose weight on that.

Oh well! :p

Hi all i would let them not believe as the results wil speak for themselves & then when they realise they will soon be quiet lol then they may want to do it & you can get them back or laugh when they tell you someones just said that to them lol keep up the good work guys xxx

I find comments like the ones mentioned just make me all the more determined tbh!
I want to prove to those people that I 'can' eat like that and lose weight.
My Mum is classic for this, she just doesn't understand SW. I have tried explaining it time and time again over many years but she still thinks that cutting portion size is the way to go with dieting, so much so that I actually told her I lost 2 lbs last week when infact, I gained a half!!! I just couldn't stand hearing the lecture!!!!!! Lol

Hi lentil2 its understandable to feel like that when someones doubting you aLl the time . I think its funny you told them you lost 2lbs lol don't let them get you down keep up the good work hun xxx

I have a friend who always says 'oh you shouldn't be eating that' when I have my daily choc bar or any other syn.

It is very annoying, especially when he gives me tips and yet he is extremely overweight himself. 3 stone loss to my name later and he still does it despite me explaining numerous times how SW works.

If he still doubts it after 3st loss well more fool him ! I do find its people with a weight problem that do most doubting its like a jealous thing . Well done on losing 3 st ! Xxx
