Military Tattoo

Emmaline

Hippety Hop!
Anyone been to the MT and can give me advice on the acual venue?
I have the problem of being disabled and therefore not only can I not book up with any touring agencies as they all do a big walkabout on the day of the event and the hotels are outside of Edinburgh otherwise I would go straight from the hotel.
The next problem is getting up to the venue, being as it is up a steep incline obviously, and I can't walk very far at all.
Would SO much like to go as I love brass bands and all that marching stuff!
Went to the Birmingham Tattoo and was so excited but believe me it was absolutely pathetic!!!
Have done lots of online investigations without being able to get these important questions being answered,
Your help would be very much appreciated.

Emmaline I just came back from Edinburgh (my brother just celebrated his 40th there), while I was there I was up at the castle courtyard (the arena), there were a couple of people handing out information, so I took the opportunity to ask about disabled facilities. Unfortunately they could not directly answer my questions so they referred me to the ticket office (near the station). Well the ticket office is only open Monday to Friday so unfortunately I couldn't ask them :(.

Anyway I did a bit of looking on line and I found this site about disabled facilities , and I found an information telephone number to ring on this site

Edinburgh is definately very hilly so it may be difficult getting around on your own. In Edinburgh there are rickshaw type taxis, which seem to get to more places than cars do, I don't know if this would be do-able for you.

I've been to the royal tournament a few times in the past but unfortunately it is now discontinued.

I hope I've managed to help in some small way. BTW Edinburgh is a really beautiful city.

Pleased I could help out, I was there anyway. Hope you get to see it one of these days :)

Just an update.
Soo delighted that I have now gotten more info and apparently they issue a permit for any disabled to be able to get vehicles to the gate, so that sorts that part. And now my daughter is thinking about coming with me, (fingers firmly crossed!!) which will make it so much nicer altho' I have never had any difficulty in chatting to those nearby and so not feeling absolutely alone.
So MT here I come 2011! Yea!

That sounds great Emmaline, I'm really pleased that it seems to be coming together for the tatoo next year, it would be wonderful if it all works out :)
