Am I eating too much?

Am I eating too much? I know this is a common newbie question, but I'd really appreciate it if someone can look over my day's food and tell me whether I'm being a piggie - I can't believe you can eat this and still lose weight...

It was a red day

Breakfast - 1/2 grapefruit; 4 ryvita (HeB) heaped with FF cottage cheese, 2 slices smoked salmon

Mid-morning: latte (skimmed milk) HeA

Lunch: Homemade chicken soup, bouillon, lots of veg, 1 skinless chicken breast

Snack: Activia FF yoghurt (large pot), 1/2 apple, slice of ham, a carrot and 2 mushrooms

Dinner:
Bowl of chicken soup to start (approx 1/2 chicken breast and veg)
185g new potatoes (HeB)
meatballs (seasoning and lean mince beef - approx 250g all to myself!)
1 can tinned tomatoes reduced with seasoning and garlic to make a sauce
asparagus and green beans

4 after eights (8 syns)

I'm stuffed and have been eating all day. Can I really lose weight on this? Do I need to reduce my portion sizes?

I've noticed I'm now eating slightly less than I was at first although I am still having days where I can eat for England-lol I'm doing EE though.

When I first started SW I probably ate that much, but now my portion sizes are a bit smaller and feel fuller much quicker (except for the week before my * week). Try to also drink at least 1.5litres of water a day too as that should help with your digestion and feeling fuller. Otherwise it looks like you are on the right track! Good luck!

As long as you're sticking to the rules of the eating plan, YOU CAN'T eat too much! When i started this diet the first time round i was determined to test the 'eat all the free foods you like' rule as i didn't believe you could lose eating so much! I felt like i was stuffing myself silly all week and didn't expect ANY kind of loss, but first week lost 7lbs!!! Keep with it and have faith. IT DOES WORK!

Thank you Rayven. I guess, after spending the last 2 decades dieting, its kind of weird being given free reign. That said, I abused it this morning by eating 1/2 pack after eights. On the up side though, for the first time in years "breaking my diet" didn't turn into a binge, and I'll reduce my syns over the next few days accordingly.

Thats the magic of this 'diet' though. You don't feel as if you're on one and thats the main reason it works! After years of telling yourself you CAN'T have this or you CAN'T have that, you're now told you can actually have what you like, you've just got to have it in moderation with lots of healthy options too - and thats what we're all aspiring to anyway, isn't it?! A healthy diet with everything in moderation.........
I've been back on for three weeks (under supervision from my midwife) and i had fish and chips in my very first week - counted up the syns and adjusted accordingly and STILL lost 4lbs!!!
When you have a blip, let it be just that - a blip and carry on. You have nothing to feel guilty about when enjoying those little treats anymore!! :D

Hi, do you still eat like this or do you eat less now? :D thanks

Hi, do you still eat like this or do you eat less now?

If i'm hungry, i eat. So yeah i do tend to eat a LOT of the free stuff - LOADS of fruit and mullerlight. I tend to keep some cooked chicken in the fridge to munch on as a snack on red days (very filling). To be honest i worry that the day i start cutting back is the day it won't work so well, so as long as i'm hungry i'm making the most of it!!! (I'm sure my appetite will shrink as i lose the weight but until then...YUM YUM!! lol)

Mr Melvis looks shocked with the amount of food I put on my plate sometimes, and with the fact I have 2 dinners most nights ... one when I come in from work and another when it's dinner time :D but as long as I'm full up and I'm still losing weight I'm not going to argue with SW lol xx

I know! It seems silly - the amount of diets i've been on where i've been practically STARVING - no wonder i couldn't stick to them!! SW is MAGIC!! lol (you can tell i'm easily impressed can't you?! lol)

all looks good. i did notice somehting though... the meatballs are made with lean mince. I thought only *extra* lean mince is free? havent got my book nearby so might be wrong... its worth checking though. your food looks yummy and fine to me otherwise xxx

As to portion sizes. . eat what you want until you are satisfied until you reach a point where the weight doesn't want to shift (usually the last 1/2 -1 stone). By then your body should be able to tell the difference between eating for the sake of eating or eating for hunger. If you are eating for hunger, go ahead and eat. if you are eating for boredom, find something else to do xxx

I ate way more than that my first week. As a matter of fact there are still days when I eat like a pig I just make sure that it's mostly free foods. When I first joined it seemed like I was always eating and I lost 4lbs both my first and second weeks! Now I find that when I work out I have to eat more in order to lose weight, I think my body tries to hold on to the extra calories when I exercise, mind you I only have 1 stone 'till goal so my body's being more stubborn now.
You'll be fine, as long as you food optimise everyday you should see a good loss at the end of the week. I run the weigh station at my meeting and I see shocked new members every week who tell me they can't believe they lost so much weight while they stuffed themselves all week. :D

I do find after a few weeks I can recognise that I am getting full now, where ad before SW I would eat and eat!

Interesting. I wonder whether I'll find the amount I eat decreases... it certainly didn't this morning (SW friendly fry up with 2 quorn sausages, 2 eggs, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms and a piece of toast - yum!)
It took me around 9 months of Sw to decrease my intake. This is a slow but permanent chnage to your lifestyle. the slower you go the more it will become habit rather than diet xx
