Can you freeze tomatoes?

missgalaxy

Yummy Mummy! xx
Im getting prepared and orgainsed for my fresh start (see previous thread lol) but I have about 10 tomatoes that arent going to get used within the next couple of days and its a shame to waste them.

Can I freeze them? Do I need to chop them, cook them then freeze or just bung in the freezer whole?

you can freeze them but only use them in cooking afterwards as they become mushy after thawing
Why not cook them up now with some basil and garlic for a pasta sauce, freeze when cool.

exactly what I would have said. We are given lots of tomatoes, they grow like weeds here and I always make them into sauces for pasta etc. Even home made tomato based spicey sauces are good. I use black pepper and cummin and just a tiny pinch of sugar.
