Debbie & Andrew's Sausages

I've just bought some of the Harrogate 97% pork sausages thinking they should be quite low in syns and was shocked to see that they're 4.5 each!!!! Why?????

Was really looking forward to sausages and mash at lunch today! :(

You would need to post the ingredients - most sausages have fillers that can bump up the syn values, or it may be the meat was not extra lean. Did you look up the values or work it out on the syn calculator?

i looked up the value on the syns online on the SW website. it's the ones that have no gluten, no dairy and no wheat and the package says "really lean pork shoulder, well seasoned with a dash of balsamic vinegar". The ingredients are:

pork shoulder (97%)
Salt, spices, Water
White Balsamic vinegar (0.3%)
Preservative (Sodium Sulphite)
Sausage casing (beef protein)

and that's it!!

So u can see why I thought they'd be good to have... :(:(

I think that pork shoulder is one of the highest fat cuts of pork so it might just be down to that even though they say it is lean. There certainly doesn't seem to be anything else in the ingredients that would contribute to the syn value.

From syns online a premium pork sausage is given as

Basic/Non Branded Foods Sausages, pork, premium, raw/grilled 57g thick

4½ Syns on Extra Easy

Original 4½ Syns

Green 7½ Syns

So that would seem to be about right.

just goes to show how deceptive things can be...there's a lot of things out there that can sabotage us if we're not careful! :(
