Hiya all,
I was wondering if anyone has high blood pressure due to pcos?
I was told my blood pressure was high but the doctor couldn't tell me why, after researching the internet I assume this is due to having PCOS?
Im struggling with just finding out I have pcos and now I have high blood pressure :(
Any advice would be appreciated.
Really Id like to know does this me I have servere pcos?? Im still waiting to be referred to a gyna and the doctor can't tell me anything really. Its frustrating having to wait for the answers, so i joined here to see if anyone can help.
Thank you.

Hi Ann88,
I am in the same boat as you are, may be a bit ahead. I also have PCOS and very high blood pressure. My GP also couldn't tell me why it always stays high. I also have diabetes and high cholesterol. I was trying to get preggo for last 4 years and have been refered to the fertility clinic 1 n half years ago. They foundout after lots of tests that i have PCOS. they can only start the treatment when i lose enough weight and thats about 25KG. My cycles are very wired too. sometimes i bleed for like 3 months non stop and sometimes i don't bleed for 2 months. its very difficult. I am seeing WLS physician for last 1 year and he thinks that i am not too over weight to go through surgery though i meet all the requirements and also surgery is not good for later pregnancies. i was dischared from the fertility clinic a week ago as thay said there is no reason to get appointments if i don't lose weight :(

hiya farzu,
I am sorry to hear you are in the same boat, I also have been told to lose weight (im finding this hard due to feeling so low atm due to just being told i have this condition). Its frustrated that all they can say is 'lose weight'.
I am currently looking at diets etc that may help me shed the weight. I have asked to be referred to the gym but was told that is not possible due to having high blood pressure, it is just a stressful cycle(need to lose weight to lower blood pressure, but cnt use the gym bcoz of blood pressure).
And as for my cycle, i hadnt bled for 9 months, and 4 months before that, they have put me on a tablet called norethisterone and now at end of my bleed (hurts). Now i have to wait 8 weeks to be refered to a gyna, so all i can do to help for now is lose weight.
Good luck with the weight loss, and hope all works out well for you in the near future.
Thank you for reading my thread and replying
xx

Hi all,

Hope you dont mind me commenting....

I have pcos, was diagnosed when i was 18 i am now due to turn 24 in a weeks time. I am desperate to have a baby and all i get told off my gp is loose weight, it gets very frustrating but there is a diet called the slimming world diet where you can eat as much as certain foods as you like so your never hungry. I tried all sorts of diets and none of them ever worked due to the pcos and the slimming world diet is the best one i ever did. I have just completed my first week and i have lost 5lbs already. I am very depressed at the moment due to not being able to have a baby and every body else around me getting pregnant as well as the body hair and periods stopping, the last period i had was a year ago next month. T he doctor had said if i loose weight then my periods would likely to return. I know its hard but try to keep your chin up gals....:)

Tracey i really feel for you hun, you have a lot on your mind but you are taking steps to improve things and that is to be congratulated :)

PCOS is an evil syndrome :( I suffer with ALL the symptoms and losing weight was nearly impossible up until now.
Have you asked your doctor about going on metformin? It brought my periods back within a couple of months and is supposed to make it a bit easier to lose weight as it deals with the insulin resistance common in PCOS.

Keep going on the diet, you're doing great and not only will the weight loss make you happier, it should really improve your symptoms. :)

Hi Ann,

Sorry i dont know if PCOS is related to high blood pressure but now you mention it, i had borderline - high blood pressure the last time i saw the doctor to get my form signed for the diet.

I have no idea whether it is related to PCOS or not but i have never had problems with my blood pressure before.

He has asked me to book in regularly with the nurse to monitor it for now but i may ask this question when i go back if it is still high.

Ladies, have any of you asked for metformin?

Also, some advice the hospital consultant gave me, was to exercise as it naturally acts in a similar way to metformin in controlling the hyperinsulinemia, but is far more effective.

I have been exercising a lot and taking the meds, it has helped and brought my periods back but i still have the excess hair and acne although i am losing weight on this new diet at last so i dont know if this is why.

Good luck ladies, i hope you get the support and advice you need, its a horrible syndrome but it can be improved x

hi midnight aquarius

Thank you for your comments....

I have to start thinking positive, i feel like im going crazy some days with it all. It gets too much for me to cope and some days i just feel like i need to escape from every day life until the black cloud passes.
I did once ask my doctor if i could be put on metformin but he said he would not put me on it and that i had to loose weight for my periods to return back to normal. People dont realise how things effect you until you actually have the condition....

Yes keep positive hun :)

Oh that seems a bit mean to me as having the Metformin could help you lose it in the first place! Is there another doctor you could see or is it that your not able to go on it for health reasons? That's rubbish about the periods hun, met brought them back so quickly and i hadn't lost any weight at that point and i weigh more than you do now.

Perhaps try the exercise and see if that helps, it should work better than the medication if what the consultant said is true.

x

there was no reason he just said weight loss. Im going to loose the weight and see what happens. Hopefully me periods should start to come back. I am going to get down to 12 stone and get refered for treatment called icsy. Ive set myself a goal for a years time but if i can get it off before then i will be straight down the doctors for a referal.

Hopefully that will sort everything out in the long term and what a fantastic motivation for losing it.

Good luck :)

Hi Ann,

I too have had High BP in past (put on medication for it).. I have since giving up drink and cigarettes.. off tabs now.. next thing is to tackle weight..

It must be a symptom - seems too much of a co-incidence??
