Headaches and Bad Dreams

*Cupcake*

is working hard.....
I've been plagued this week by headaches and the most awful dreams - coupled with the heat and blooming *week I've been feeling rather unhappy and fed up! :(

I'm not a big pill taker (although I did take Paracetemol and Ibuprofen at times when I *had* to), and have been trying alternatives such as feverfew, a menthol/mint gel rub from Origins called 'Peace of mind' and some herbal teas for my head, but I've not really had complete success.

And as for the dreams - such vivid and frightening ones I've not had for a long long time. I actually woke up crying and shouting and sobbed for a half hour after waking last night!

Do any of you get bad dreams or persistent headaches, and if so, what do you do? Any advice gratefully recieved! xx

I've had a lot of vivid dreams this week too, what's the craic, is it the heat Iwonder? I usually get out and walk and walk where's it's green or go to the seaside and walk the length of it. Try get away from the noise of the city somewhere and lose yourself in the surroundings. The fresh air will give you a good night's sleep and if I remember correctly dreaming happens during the lighter sleep stages so getting good deep sleep will help you wake up without the memories of those dreams. I'm so sorry you're having to put up with these awful wakeup calls Cupcake.

lots and lots of water throughout the day helps with the headaches, I normally get vivid dreams the first few days of dieting, I think it's something to do with the body adjusting to eating less??? I found the dream mist spray from avon, it's a lavender one, I spray it on my pillow and I find it gives me a really restful night, by that I mean dreamless nite... :) hope the dreams go away soon for you, just keep drinking more...

Thanks guys - yes I do drink lots - at least 2 1L bottles of water a day, plus teas. Occasional coffee and diet coke too.

My doctor friend was telling me that our fat cells store all kinds of toxins (like anasthetics, hormones) and as you burn your fat cells through weightloss, it is possible for these residual toxins to be released - hence headaches etc.

Another good reason for shedding the fat! xx

Yes I've heard that too, I did wonder if it was something to do with the change in my monthly cycle that happened once I started losing the weight.

If a dream is waking you up and upsetting you to the extent you've mentioned above, it might be worth taking a look at it and trying to figure out what it's telling you. Generally speaking, that kind of prolonged upset happens when something significant has broken through from your unconscious - it might be an old trauma from when you were a child, a hurt you've been carrying for a long time.

I started keeping a dream journal about two years ago and it's astonishing what you can learn. Dreams are like polaroids from the unconscious - they can show you things that benefit you when you understand them. :)
