Operation?

Hiya,

I'm having an operation in a few weeks time on my elbow, I'm really worried as I'm overweight, has anyone else had surgery and been overweight? My BMI is 39.

I'm worried about silly things like the gown not fitting and them not being able to lift me when I'm asleep!!

They're more than prepared for that hun, they'll be doing stuff to people 3 times your size so definitely not a problem x

Hi you don't need to worry about your weight being a problem they do operate on people who are far heavier than you.
And you don't need to worry about lifting you either nobody lifts in hospitals anymore, they'll use a board and slide sheet to transfer from your bed to the trolley.
Good luck i'm sure you'll be fine.

I had an operation at the end of May. Just worked out that my BMI was 36.2.

The gowns fit fine (with room to spare). Just make sure that you wear pants (one woman tried 'mooning the ward'!! :D :D ) and take a dressing gown.

I was worried about all the things that you listed too.... but everything was fine. And for once, no-one mentioned my weight nor told me that it was an issue!!!!!!

I was worried that they would even postpone the op until I'd lost more weight, but no-one even mentioned it at my pre-op appointment!!! :D
