Clothes dilemma

Onwards and downwards!
Hi everyone,

I'm a bit stuck at the moment in terms of clothes. I don't have many items of clothing and really hate shopping at the size that I am. I am wearing size 16 clothes at the moment and they are just hanging off me, and I am still wearing tops that I wore when I was a size 18. So I just look a bit of a mess!

When I have gone shopping in the past it has always been a bad experience for me. Going round shop after shop not being able to find anything that fits or looks good. I'm at the stage where 16 is too big and 14 is too small, and literally nothing fits! It is so so frustrating and I don't know what to do. This is going to sound a bit sad but as a result I don't really go out much because I just have nothing to wear. :sigh:

I'm supposed to be going out for a meal with the family this weekend but I have nothing other than tracky bottoms and t-shirts :( I dread the though of going and trying on clothes just to find nothing fits!

Is anyone else in a similar situation, or has been? What did you do?

My advice would be go in as many shops as you can stand to and try on as many cloths as you can bear

Yes it can be stressful, however with all the shops being so different in sizes I would say somewhere you WILL find something that fits you like a glove.

Good luck with it

Oh and i agree with the leggings and dress comment from someone else, these look so pretty and can be very flattering

x

Have to admit I've never even thought of trying leggings. I just think back to when I was growing up and the hideous leggings I used to wear thinking I looked cool, hehe. But I know they are 'back in fashion' again and everyone wears them now so maybe I should give it a go. Although, I hate the thought of my legs in a pair or leggings

I think having someone helpful and supportive to go shopping with would help too, someone to say if something looks good or not. As I just tend to look in the mirror and go no way, lets go.:D

Ooo, thats nice Allie, I like that. Thank you for the link. :D

At the moment I'm just really in scruffy jeans, tracky bottoms and plain t-shirts. Just anything that will cover up as much of me as possible, lol. I really need to try and start trying new things/styles.

that dress is lovely - I like it a lot!

I was of the same frame of mind "urgh leggings again" however if you buy a nice quality pair the right size for you and wear something that covers your "worst" bits you will be fine

Not like the girl in front of me in tesco last night who had a cheap filmsy pair that have that horrid "shine" to them, in a size too small for her (so a 14 and not a 16) so they were stretched like mad and she had a cream vest top on that was also too small. She wasnt a big girl by any means but looked terrible :-(

If you can take a very good friend shopping with you hun! Other peeps tend to pick out things that we wouldn't ever dream of wearing as we've got so used to covering up that we 'forget' how to dress! I've already told my two besties that they are taking me shopping when I get to target as they see my new figure and I still struggle to get over my old figure, even though I've nearly lost 2 stone and 23.5 inches! xxx

TBH I prefer catalogue shopping - you can order in a couple of sizes and styles, and try them all on in the comfort of your own home with all your shoes and jewellary.
I much prefer shopping this way - and it's not that expensive anymore, and the best thing is you can just send back what you don't want for free.

Yes, definitely try and get some stuff that fits properly!! You've lost so much weight, you should be proud and not trying to hide it under baggy t-shirts and scruffy clothes!!

I'm with teens74 - go in as many shops as you can stand!! Every shop's sizes are different so you're bound to find something that fits perfectly!

Thank you everyone :) I'm going to go and brave the shops tomorrow and see if I can find anything. Only got my hubby to go with so might not be too successful, lol, but we will see. :D

I second everything that's been said. Try something fitted, bright-coloured and patterned as I bet, from what you have said and speaking from experience, you usually wear plain, dull & baggy. You need to get into clothes buying again - and once you do you won't stop (again, experience talking- I am now a total shopaholic!)

Hi hun, what a bout a personal shopper at debenhams? its a free service with no obligation to buy but i found it really helpful as she gave me a honest opinion of what suited me and also showed how to mix and match clothes..needless to say i ended up spending a penny but it was worth it x

I'm not sure what style of clothes you are into but..

Ladies Printed Bubble Dress - View All Sale - Peacocks - That's pretty and would look nice with leggings and flat shows and a little cardi, flattering aswell.

xxxxx

I have this dress! It fits really well and I think it would flatter any shape and size. For me personally it's quite short so I wear leggings underneath.

It's also quite a special dress to me as it's the first piece of clothing I bought in a size 12 :D

yes hun try find something that fits i've just moved into my 14's some are tight some are loose depending on the shop know asda are big. anyway the one thing I notice is the clothes that fit me that are not hanging off make me look thinner but also don't try squeeze into close cause to tight clothes causes rolls which makes you look bigger.
