CC & lots of exercise

Hello seasoned calorie counters! I've just started calorie counting and am on 1500 a day. I have 2 stone to lose, and am on day 4. My problem is that I exercise quite a bit, for at least an hour 6 days a week, burning between 500-700 calories (usually running but sometimes aerobics videos or other activity). Today I felt weak on my run, so I wanted to know - is 1500 right? (I want to lose 2lbs a week)? Is it just because I've just started & need to give it a bit more time, or should I aim for more cals? Help much appreciated!

I think you work out your BMR and then reduce it by 500 calories...I eat around 1500 but I am alot bigger. Sorry not much help. Good luck with your journey x

Hello :)

If you do a search online you can find yourself a calculator to work out your basal metabolic rate or 'BMR'- that varies between individuals, so it will ask you to input your age/sex/height/weight. Your BMR tells you how many calories you burn on a normal day before you include any exercise, so that's how many calories your body needs per day in order for you to stay the same weight.

If you want to lose weight then obviously you need to reduce the number of calories- this can either be by burning calories through exercise, or by eating fewer calories, or a combination of the two.

If, for example, you burn 500 calories a day in exercise, then you should lose 1lb a week if you eat the same number of calories as the BMR calculator tells you. If you want to do that amount of exercise and lose 2lb a week then you'd need to also reduce your calories by 500 a day- so if your BMR is 2000 (for example, but like I say this will depend on you!), you'd be eating 1500 per day.

Hope that helps a bit? :)
