Xenical and medication

Hello everyone, I came across this forum whilst seaching the web for information, such informative and inspiring posts.

I started xenical 2 weeks ago, and weighed 13.11. I've been sticking to the 15g or less fat per meal and consuming approx 1200 calories per day, however, yesterday i weighed in at 14.01. Obviously i'm completely disillusioned by the increase in weight, especially since i know i have been sticking to the rules 100%.

Back in January i had a neck problem which left me unable to move my upper body for a few weeks, since then my muscles have been in spasm and the nerves in my neck have left me in chronic pain. After trying a concoction of different meds that haven't agreed with me, my GP gave me amitriptyline to try for a couple of months before referring me to the musculoskeletal specialist. I have tried and increased the dose as advised by my GP, I can now sleep 13/14 hours and feel a complete zombie, my last increase was a few days before starting my xenical and after researching amitriptyline the last few days i am almost sure this is the reason i have not lost any weight and to add insult to injury they haven't really had any effect on the pain anyway, so i am going to discuss this with my GP as asap and stop the amitriptyline immediately.

Anyways apologies for my waffle and minor history but i was just wondering if anybody else had had any issues with xenical not working with medications?

I actually don't feel as bad about my gain now knowing that weight gain is a side effect of this particular med, so onwards with week 3 and look forward to a loss at the end of it :) Here's hoping anyway.

Hi Helen and welcome to Minis. I haven't any personal experience of medication reacting with Xenical and in fact it shouldn't, in theory, happen at all as Xenical isn't absorbed by the body but acts locally, in your gut, without ever reaching your bloodstream. Having said that, we all know that theory doesn't always work in practice so maybe others have more information. Good luck,

Thanks KB for the welcome, and the good luck wishes.
I'm not giving up so easy and have decided to continue another week with xenical, it's working for so many of you and i realise everyone is different - what works for one may not for another and all that but after reading all the weight gain stories on the net re:amitriptyline it seems to me very likely to me that this is the cause of my weight gain... im hoping so anyway, i will weigh in again next Monday to see if stopping the amitriptyline has helped.
