Sw newbie - help and info please!! :)

Hi

I am thinking about joining slimming world. I have never joined a slimming club before but since putting on weight over the last year or so I want to lose about 1.5-2 stone.

I know the very basic about slimming world eg green days/red days but thats all i know!
i would appreciate any feedback about SW, if it works for you, how easy it is (i have a busy life, like us all!) what the basic idea is.
I have looked on there website but I have found they dont mention the basic's of the diet.
i would love to hear how everyone finds it!
also im very nervous about going to the group meetings!

any advice.info would be fab! :)

thanks

No you won't find the details of the plan on the website. That wouldn't make good business sense as it would mean people wouldn't have to be paying members.

I think SW is a fantastic plan and you will lose weight if you follow the 'rules'. One huge benefit is that you will never have to be hungry. We have been brainwashed into thinking that to lose weight you have to cut back and deprive yourself. Well there is none of that on SW. No foods are off limits, minimal weighing and counting, a huge list of free foods for those moments when the hunger pangs strike. It's totally flexible, you'll eat normal meals that are good for the whole family, and people probably won't even believe you are on a diet because you can eat so much food!

Thinkerbell - don't think about it - do it... Join without delay. You won't regret it. :)

Slimming World/Food Optimising is a healthy eating plan. with a huge range of free foods (which vary depending on the day - red/green/extra easy) that you can eat without weighing/counting, along with the healthy extras (which are weighed/counted) and the "syns" which are again weighed/counted.

Unlike conventional wisdom with diets - there's no going hungry, if you're hungry, eat - but choose wisely and typically from that huge list of free foods.

The groups in themselves are a godsend - i've never missed a weigh-in in 18 months (though have had one occassion where i didn't stay afterwards - but that one occassion was me weighing in on the way to A&E (and subsequently being admitted with suspected appendicitis - so maybe weighing in wasn't a good idea). The support/advice you'll receive from both the consultant and other members is just simply invaluable - i truly know that I wouldn't have come so far without them.

Go for it - what have you got to loose? apart from a stone or two? and everything to gain...

DO IT!! I was the same as you, I wasn't going to the meetings when I first started, just bought the books and did it myself, but I decided I needed extra support and ideas. Granted, I'm only on my 3rd week of going to classes, but it was the best thing I've done. Everyone is really nice and it gives me the extra incentive not to give up (especially when my kids are eating crisps and chocolate lol).

Good luck honey! It really is an amazing choice to make, you just won't believe how much you can eat and still be 'dieting' and after a while, it just feels normal! May all seem a bit daunting now with all the different syn values and the different days you can do but just ask your Consultant to explain it to you as thoroughly as possible - say you have no idea about how it works, it's the best way to get a proper understanding. My C didn't explain it fully as I said I'd read a bit about it online already and also as the other lady she was giving the intro talk to had already been on it before. It made it a bit difficult for me to get my head around the healthy extras, free foods and superfree foods.

However, even if she had given me all the guidance and instructions to the letter, I still wouldn't have gotten all the knowledge I have right now - and that's from the support of my fellow Miniminners :) xxx

I'd say go for it, you've nothing to lose but that 1.5-2 stone! Like you I haven't got loads to lose and have a super hectic life but have found the extra easy plan particularly easy to follow. I've never gone hungry and just love my group as they are such a giggle and very supportive. Wishing you tons of luck x

Well it looks like you decided to join, I sat for months and months saying I need to do something, my weight was increasing and increasing, a friend of mine asked if I would like to go, because I was asked I went, after week 2 she found she was pregnant, I have carried on going and meet a great group of people, where all there for the same thing, to lose weight. The only thing I am sorry about is not getting off my butt and joining sooner :)
Good luck x
