Low cost exercise for someone with feet problems

AimeeLu

Battling On!
I have little money, sometimes none at all and I need to exercise more...

but, I have on going problems with my feet which mean I can't run or walk for very long at all at the moment, about 15mins is the longest right now.

Any body have anything similar or know of anything I can do?

I sprained my ankle badly twice earlier this year and it's still not right. It sort of gives out on me often when I'm walking, walking can get painful after about 20-30 mins and jogging is out of the question for me.

At home I use an exercise bike and an airwalker which don't bother my ankle at all, though they still involve using your feet so I don't know if that would be an issue for you. You can usually pick them up fairly cheap in the local classified ads or on gumtree.

I also went swimming yesterday for the first time in a long time and that was perfect as your feet aren't bearing any weight.

My only other suggestion I can think of is using hand weights/heavy household objects for weight lifting and things like situps/pushups/stretches...maybe yoga?

Thankyou :) That's helped me alot!
I think I'll ask my uncle if I can have old unused exercise bike he's got. And maybe if I can budget some money for some swimming I can do that too, out of curiosity whats an airwalker? Is that a stupidly stupid question? :|

hehe no that's not a stupid question, not many folk have heard of them. Airwalkers are also known as gravity striders. It's probably better just to show you so check out this guy using one on youtube YouTube - Air Walker They are great, very low impact on joints and quite fun to use too :)

Aww thanks for your help! :)
I dont think I'll be able to buy one of those air walkers though, for now anyway haha :) If only I had the money!

Hi AmieeLou,
right there with you on the feet problem, broke both mine a few years ago so really struggle on the exercise front, an exercise bike would be your best bet but make sure you check out the comfort of the seat first I spent a fortune on my bike only to find that after 10 mins my butt was killing me.
Have to admit I cheat when it come to exercise I'm using a slendertone belt for my arms and tum to tone up but they are expensive.
To be honest I dont think hitting the gym makes that much difference on this diet its more about toning exercises than cardio which does'nt involve putting any extra stress on your feet, Hope this helps
Good Luck

like I said, keep an eye out for them in the local ads, gumtree or ebay. I got mine for £20 from an advert in the library, the guy dropped it off at my house for me and everything :)

Wow. I'll take a look on ebay i think! haha :) thanks! x

Thanks Kimi :)
Thankfully the seats okay, can't really afford another bike!
Whats the slender tone thing you're talking about? That sounds really good, arms look like trunks at the moment :(

Hi Amiee Lou,

Slendertone products have been around for while in one form or another, you can them for arms, shorts for bum and thighs and a belt for the waist basically they send electrcal pulses to the muscles causing them to contract the same as they do when your exercising, but as I've said they are expensive. x

Kimi -Ah I see, well maybe one day when the pennies start coming in faster I'll take a look :)

First of all join your local Freecycle site. (google it) They often have ones going free! The other thing is go to your GP. You probably need some corrective insoles which he can refer you for on the nhs.

Thankyou! Will Do! :) x

Exercises you can do with your arms such as press ups will increase muscle mass which will help you burn off more calories and raise your metabolism
