Can you do it on your own

Hi all

I have been a slimming world member for a few weeks now. doing well. however my husband has recently been made redundant and money is really tight.

Just wondering do any of you do slimming world but not attend the group. I know the group is a great help but I really can’t afford the fees at the moment (I know it’s not much but every penny counts at the moment)

I am a newbie here so all advice welcome

Thanks

I do it on my own, I have never been to a group. I just bought a few books off ebay and I have learned soooo much from this forum. I reckon you could do it yourself no bother!

I think it can be done, and there are people on here to prove it

However I think you do have to be a certain type of person, and have to have more will power and dedication, i think it is harder to get back on track if you lose your way where as a weekly class stops that from happening

But I see no reason at all, with some forward planning, why you cant do it and save yourself some spends (they soon add up)

Good luck xxx

I do it on my own too.

I've got some of the books and get lots and lots of help, hints and ideas on here. :D

I do think you have to be fairly well disciplined if you are going to go it alone, because you really have only yourself to please or disappoint, and sometimes that's difficult. I do think that I would have better losses if I went to class, but that's not going to happen anytime soon judging by my bank balance. :sigh:

I think I will try it on my own for a few weeks and see how I get on. I have been lurking around this site for a few weeks and I can see all the great advice available. Weighed myself in the chemist so will do that every thursday moring so I can see how I am doing.

Thanks for the advice. I hope I can keep the will power up. I am trying to lose the weight because I am trying for another baby and nothing is happening so that should keep me motivated.

I was going to say if you can WI not at home I am sure that helps, having a "proper" wi away from home gives it more of a feel as to a class and should keep you on track

Hello and welcome! There's a lot of fabulous peeps on here who do SW 'on their own' but when you're a member of Minis you're never really 'on your own'! Good luck xx

hey - i am doing w w on my own for the same reason i just cant afford the 10euros a week fee .. i was a member so i have all the information and i weight myself every week in the chemist x good luck

I think you can do it alone. It's important to stick to group because of the support and if you get along with people in the group and your consultant even better. I've not been able to go to group for ages because of work clashes and I have been floundering. I need the group support of the people who have now become my friends at SW. So the moment things settle down at work I'll definitely be back there. But that's me.

To give your days/weeks more structure, set aside a date for your WI and go someplace to do it, like boots and WI there every week. So that way you'll have a defined date and time for WI and are less likely to lose direction. Good luck!

I did it on my own for almost 2.5 years! It can be done Hun, you just have to be really focused and not just think that the scales arent a threat if you have a naughty weekend! What ever you do, never avoid the scales regardless and make sure that you write everything down. Come on here regularly too...the help, advice and support is fantastic!

Good luck!
xx

Hi I'm new here, and have decided to stop going to class as I had a gain, then missed my next class through work ,and then deliberately missed a class because I felt I had gained, and now I have missed the next one because I was so stressed out about it! Now I have found this brilliant site I'm hoping to stay motivated. it's a good idea to get weighed in Boots once a week at a set time, and another thing i'm going to do is hide my own scales!
Good luck to all go it aloners!

Speaking for myself, no I can't do it alone. I need the thought in the back of my head that I have to get on the scales and that stops me cheating (most of the time), whereas if I'm doing it on my own then I'll think,oh well what's another day.

I have been doing it on my own for just over a year now, and I have lost weight steadily with the help of this forum and the lovely dieter's on it

But a new SW class opened in our local market town last week, and I am still mulling over whether or not to join up, or save my money and carry on as I am.

I'll give it a bit more thought over the weekend.

Thanks for all the advice. I am going to give it a try on my own for a few weeks and see how I go. There is a chemist beside were I work so i will WI there every Thursday morning.

I have been good so far today. toast for brekkie. prawn salad and fruit for lunch and chicken and SW chips for dinner. Oh and a muller light (toffee my favourite)
