Well, to be honest it really depends on what you need to know!. (or what you already know).

Basically, LT is available through your Pharmacist, for a list of those that stock it in your area just google. They will weigh you, have a chat with you and give you a dvd to take home with you for the night that explains everything. You'll bring it back the next day and get your LT packs.

There are 3 different flavours of shakes and chicken soup (I think theres flapjacks too but I cant comment as I've never had them). The shakes are chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. The chicken soup is suitable for vegetarians suprisengly enough!.

I love, love, love the shakes - I think they taste like slim fast - yum. That said, I've heard many on here saying the hate them - find them hard to get down - either way they will grow on you.

You have 3 shakes a day. its equivilant to about 450calories a day (I think).

Your first week will be hard - please be prepared for that, I really struggled, BUT it really really does get easier after that, once your body goes into ketosis (where its burning the fat off at an incredible rate to get energy). When your in ketosis, you will have stinky breath and will be cold. You cant have diet drinks on LT or chewing gum - be very careful. Stick to it 100% (no cheats or blips) as if you eat, it will kick you out of ketosis and all your hard work will be in vain.

If you do this, the results will amaze you!!. I lost 7lbs my first week which if Im honest I was disappointed with as most appear to loose 8,9,10,11,12..... ohtobeslinky lost 16lbs her first week!!!.

You can expect to loose a stone a month but from my experience on here, your first month may be more - stone and a half maybe.

Cant think of much else... anything else you need to know??

Oh it really helps if you drink loads of water - between 3 and 4 litres a day (so up to 8 pints), it helps ward off headaches etc.. and the more you drink the more you loose!!!.

Also you HAVE to do refeed after this, you cant just go back immediately to eating normally from not eating at all - you will gain between 7 - 10lbs (mostly water and sugar but very disheartening to see) if you do and I think thats where most have the misconception that "you'll pile it back on".. Even if you do it for 7 days ... it introduces the food/ carbs back in at an appropriate rate and allows your body to adjust (there is a diet sheet with exactly what to eat on this when the time is right)

Just a little note - the flapjacks are vile! They taste like compacted cardboard - stick to shakes and soup and the pounds will drop off!

Also it is a very personal journey - one person's experiences will be very different to another's. As NikkiH said - I lost a huge amount in my first week - where as others will lose a large amount every week. Some people find it really hard and get ratty with people, others don't. What works for one person may not work for you.

If you do decide to do LT you'll find us on here all with hints and tips, moans and gripes - and great weight losses! We're all very supportive and understand what you're going through.

Good luck and I hope you do try this diet. xx

Thank you all for your help :)

Now the important question of cost? Is there any financial help via GP or anything as am a full time student living on practically nothing ha ha

Sadly I don't think so. I get free prescriptions so I asked if I could get mine on prescription and the pharmacist said I wouldn't be able to as the diet the doctor prescribes is slightly different. This may vary between doctors/pharmacists - all you can do is ask and see what they say. x

But remember - £36 isn't actually that much. Think about how much you would usually spend on food - grabbing a sarnie or a can of coke - a take away or something quick and easy. I'm sure it would come to more than £36 a week! x

I was worried about the cost when I started by Ive been doing LT now for a week and I think actually saved money! There is no spending the odd 60p on a packet of crisps or a can of coke and there is no buying lunches at work or college so you dont actually spend any more that the £36 it costs for the shakes!

My monthy shop (as i live with my OH) is now about a quarter what is used to be :)

Losing pounds whilst saving pounds lol!

Believe it or not, we currently spend about 20-25 per week on food including a big sack of dog food every fortnight, I know it probably seems odd but we are very low income wise so has always been a struggle!

So I think spending more than that on just me will be a big no no more so financially... feeling depressed now :(

Ask the pharmacist and your doctor - you never know - it might be different where you are. x

if you cant get any help maybe try slim fast, i dont think the results are as quick but u do eat one meal a day with the shakes which may be easier and its cheaper, u can either buy the pot of powder to mix with milk for your shakes which is a couple of quid or buy them ready made for up to a pound or so each

I did do slimfast a number of years ago but I didnt believe in it enough, I want to reduce my cal's as low as I am able to but in the correct way, and from seeing what this diet does it would possibly fit in to that.

Im going to look into it more in all aspects of diets available too

yeah use google, helped me a lot, if they dont give you help there are so many low cal recipes around, i brought a book on play.com for 1.50 it was bbc good food recipe guide, BRILL

Thank you :)

I have had 2 appointments with the doctors since Jan/Feb and expressed my want of extreme low calorie diets (as if I have had surgery - without the surgery - if that makes sense) and they agreed to it. I went doc's a couple of weeks ago and said I sometimes feel as though Im not eating much and they said well its working so carry on :)

Just hard to eat little when you fancy something big - not that this bothers me all the time

best thing to do i would say is experiment in the kitchen, get online get looooads of low cal low fat recipes etc that are appealing and get cooking, it will keep your hands busy keep you occupied and you can try loads new foods that are good for you, im planning on doing this when im on refeed and following refeed week

I like the sound of that, Although not the greatest of cooks, but Ill be sure to try :)

Thanks xx

i taught myself to cook, i would maybe switch to wholemeal products too, get experimenting, pick out simple looking recipes that appeal to you and start easy

yeh I was reading up last night on wholewheat, as I admitt I tend to stick to white rice/pasta/bread etc

Is wholewheat lower in cal's too as well as giving more fibre and nutrition to a diet?

i think it is, i have to have it as i suffer from pcos so white pstas and rice etc are worse for me, but they are deffo beter for you, maybe you should try a low carb diet to kick start, you can get some really good nil carb stuff, i ordered some pasta from a store online that was nil carbs it was a substitute and it tasted the same

Cool, thanks hun, Im going to investigate xx
