How do you cook eggs?

Not sure if this is in the right section because it's not exactly a recipe. Sorry if it is.
Haha seems a bit daft asking.
I want to do hard boiled eggs but how long do I cook it for to make it hard boiled?
Do I put it in cold water and then bring to the boil or boil the water and add the egg to it?
Also how do you stop them looking blackish inside after they are cooked?
I am a good cook honest LOL
Thanks

Well my mum used to put cold water on them, then bring them to the boil, and cook for about 8 minutes, but if you want a runny yolk you'd need to cook them for a couple of minutes less. If the eggs have come out of the fridge they may crack in the water as it boils, but if they do, tip a bit of salt into the water and it helps to set the bit of egg that's seeping out and prevent it cracking any more :)

Yep, start with cold water and bring to the boil. Count 7 minutes from when it starts boiling for a firm yolk. To prevent the yolk discolouring, once cooked dunk in cold water and leave it there until cool enough to handle.

putting the egg in cold water with a pinch of salt and then bringing it to the boil is how i have always done it.. good cook myself, lol, but had to ask my mum the other night why they go back on the inside sometimes, she said it just happens if with time, like say you boil a few and keep them in the fridge, they will always get blacker, it's nothing bad :) but yeah dunking them in cold water really helps to make sure they're definitely hard boiled. xxx

I put mine in boiling water with a little vinegar to stop the white spilling out if eggs crack. I then boil for about 8/10 mins, then wash in cold water to prevent the black ring round the yolk.

Enjoy :D

You can get a little gadget called an egg piercer, which makes a tiny hole at the "blunt" end of the egg, where the little air space is. This means that they will hardly ever crack.

After several occasions where I had forgotten about my eggs and boiled them to bullets, I bought a very cheap egg cooker from Lidl, which works perfectly.

As soon as they are done I take them out of the cooker and put them in a bowl of cold water to cool right down. I hardly ever get a black ring round the yolks.
