This week ive only lost 0.5lbs

Mentally I feel that ive come so so far in only 5 weeks. i no longer even think about snacking, and when i see all the people at work pigging out on cake and such likes i think "yuck", whereas before i probably would have bitten their arm off!:17729:

But i still struggle with turning to food for comfort. Last weekend was the anniversary of my Dad's death who i loved dearly. But i turned to food all weekend for my comfort which isnt great. to give you an idea i had steak & chips, a HUGE take away curry, icecream, cakes, biscuits..... the list goes on :(

Do we ever get over comfort eating? does anyone have any tips to avoid comfort eating?

I feel that im back on track with the diet after the weekend, but i know if i get sad i'll eat...

you have reached the first stage if you ask me. you have recognised that you comfort eat and what has triggered it. now you need to find something else that works as well as food. in my case i take the pup for a walk

The triggers never stop. The thing is, is to see them for what they are, and either 1) give in to them and accept the consequences, or 2) realise they are simply triggers and not orders, and try and rise above it - use distraction, smugness, whatever works.

Either way, we're all grown-ups and responsible for our choices. Comfort eating's great, innit? but it's not the only source of comfort - it's just the most instant and habitual one. It's what we reach for, because it's what we know.

However this comes from someone that's has proper given in this evening. We're all infallible. In times of stress/distress/weakness/fatigue, when weighing up both options, even with premeditated rational thought, sometimes option 1 still wins. ;) and this M&S plonk ain't 'arf bad.

So don't beat yourself up about it - if you're already feeling a bit beaten owing to crappy external circumstances, you really don't need to add a bit of self-depreciation to the mix, too. :)
