Compulsive eaters! I must share this with you

Recently I have had some personal tradgedy, I won't go into details, however it left me with panic attacks and savere depression. So I went to the docs cus I could bare it no longer. The doc perscribed to usual course of anti depressants but ones which stop panic attacks and stabilise your mood...

Guess what? Because I feel better I no longer binge eat, neither do I have cravings the way I used to infact I am finding I have to have set meal times and eat because I do not think about it?? Whilst depressed food was a massive crutch and I would binge then starve and never get anywhere on diets...

Now my feelings and mood are stabilised due to anti d's I don't do this and guess what??? Yep I lost weight. My weight is due wholly to my mood and I would panic and consume, panic and starve and it meant I would not lose weight.

I always knew this was the reason I just did not know how my mood and eating were related, I am so relieved. I am eating to fuel and live instead of living to eat. What I am trying to say is instead of struggling with weight loss maybe it is down to disorders such as depression or panic attacks like me?

Worth bearing in mind, I am on citalopram, if anyone is wondering ;)

Tackle the reasons why you over eat, the rest may fall into place x

best of luck friends x

Wow an inspiring account. Good luck with your weight loss and I hope you acheive many of your dreams xx

Thanks all,

I know it sounds extreme but if there are any 'emotional' eaters out there and im one of them, do think about anti depressants as the weight is falling off me now i feel better, I didn't realise I was eating to stem the depression.

its good you found a posative with such a bad negative, good luck with loseing weight.:)

Hi Serafyn, thanks for posting about this. I too am on anti-d's. Has made a massive difference to my emotional eating problem. I had Citalopram at first, but they gave me a very dry mouth. Changed to Fluoxetine (20mg) a day. Totally fab. Doc recommends I take them for life. My body doesn't produce enough seratonin so the tab just puts that right. Runs in the family.

can i just say i put 3 stone on last summer after going on anti deppressants and that is usually the case with most anti deppressants.
i am not trying to be argumentative this is just what happened to me.

Yes this is an interesting point and I spoke to the doc before I went on the pils about possible weight gain, he said it's like this....

If you eat when you are moody or anxious (as I do) you will lose weight on the pills... If you don't eat cus you're anxious and depressed you will gain cus you feel better and eat.

Hope that makes sense.

I am the first kind of eater ir depression and eating kind.

Mmm, Fluoxetine. Those were the days. I did the foolish thing and came off them cold turkey instead of gradually.

Don't do it, kids! Obey the nice doctor! :D

Hi I just cam off citalopram. I put on tons of weight and i actually feel better off tablets. Not trying to scare you but be very careful coming of citalopram the side effects were awful

Am on Fluoxetine too, neither gained nor put on with them. But i do notice that the need to emotionally eat diminishes when i increase my dosage
