Starting again alone and PCOS

Hello all, My name is Kelly and I am 28, I did slimming world a few years back and lost loads of weight, I moved and stopped going and have piled all of the weight back on :-( I have PCOS and have been trying to conceive for 6 years I have 2 children Elizabeth who is 7 and Jacob is my step son. I dont know why but I struggle with motivation. The thing that has made me decide enough is enough was yesterday at work we received an e-mail saying that 20 people were needed for pictures for a departmental photo, the director was going to hand out cards to the chosen people well everyone that was chosen were super skinny and I sat there feeling like a fat cow, I dont know why it got to me so bad but I think that somehow it switched a switch to say enough is enough! I hate to see my reflection and I am sick of buying "fat" clothes. I am a sales manager and I work really hard,If I could work as hard as I do at the office on me then I would be a size 10 in no time!
I plan on not weighing myself and just judging my weight loss on my clothes and energy level.
I was involved in a car accident 2 years ago and suffer with a bad back but the weight isnt helping at all.
I need some help and support, I want to feel good about me again. I am so self sick of feeling bad about myself. I dont want to be the duff (desinated ugly fat friend)
Thanks for listening to my rant and I am looking forward to meeting you all and travel the weight loss road with you all x

hi and welcome! there are a couple of us here with PCOS too. DH and I have been ttc#1 just over 10 years. Hoping to lose enough to get hormones somewhere near normal :)

Thanks for the reply, I hope that you get your bundle of joy soon. I really want a baby and I get mad when I eat like crap because this should be motivation enough but still I stuff my face with "bad" food.
Do you find you loose more weight on red or green days?

I only really do green, I find I'm really hungry on red, struggle to afford to do it. Technically red is better for PCOS, but keepng to wholewheat pasta and brown rice would help.

Hey ladies,

Ive also got PCOS but its not really affected me overly greatly til i had a miscarriage recently, I say not really affected me yeah ok i have all the symptoms, hairyness, acne being over weight obviously and messed up periods, but when i found out it struck me more was it to do with the PCOS. In someways this sounds awful but as all this happened the father left me and i couldnt now be able to do it alone, so while i know there are soo many women out there like your selves who desperately want a baby, it sort of came as a helping hand. It doesnt make me feel anyless sad, though it was an accident but i sort of feel guilty that i got pregnant in the first place.

Its sort of changed how i look at SW before it was just to lose weight now its to lose weight so that i can hopefully improve my PCOS and its symptoms which have slowly started creeping back. Im currently doing EE which im finding great as its mostly veg anyways with some carbs and protein which i find more useful for me, obviously i ll chose better carbs for me like wholegrain and sweet potato but it leaves me fuller and less likely to snack.

Good Luck and hopefully we ll all be able to help each other :)

like silvermaneuk said, I also have PCOS and really recommend reading either Rick Gallop's low gi book or the south beach diet plan, both of which are ideal for PCOS sufferers and are also easily adaptable into the slimming world plan.

I have cut out white carbs almost completely from my diet now. I occasionally have them and find I can managed with that, but any other time it is whole wheat/grain carbs for me. That also means no potatoes unless they are new ones in skins and sweet potatoes. Certain veg and fruit should be avoided also.

I have already noticed I am less bloated than I used to be.

For me, cutting out white carbs is a nightmare, I live on pasta and jacket potatoes lately!

Hello, I also have PCOS also. But the only effects I really suffer with is the hormonal effects....I swear to god sometimes I have more testosterone than my dh! hehe Although it's not very nice some of the time.
We do have a dd who is now three and I conceived after 6 months of trying. my periods were regular then and I weighted in at just under 11 stone. Once my dd was born the PCOS really started to effect me. My periods would come when they like! and were so light and sometimes lasting for only a day. and my weight went to 14st 8! i'm only 5ft. last yr
I managed to lose 30lbs on lipotrim ( no fun!!!) and then stoped to take metformin and 8 weeks later I was pregnant! : ) I'm now 19 weeks!
I think losing weight def helped me to conceive. so you are on the right track!
I'm sure as the weeks go by your confidence will come flowing back.
Good luck!

Hi Kelly. Welcome to the forum and I'll be honoured to give you support, its the best forum and I get daily support from doing this, which I really need as I'm doing it on my own at home.

Make a plan of what food you are going to have the day before, that has helped me all week and if you have something coming up, then save some of your syn's each day, (by having more of the Speed Foods and free foods), to use on that occasion, that way you aren't limiting yourself and still enjoying food too.

It will be good to follow your progresses, take care. xxx

I'm another PCOS girl. I carry all my weight around my middle!
I'm getting married next year and hope to start trying to conceive soon after that. I know that weight loss will better my chances so I've got everything crossed. Even my eyes. It's a very attractive look for me. :D
